Question

Filed to start systems management device drivers.

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

I have been trying to install Nutanix phoenix. But everytime i try to install it i run into the same error instsvcdrv.service not being able to start. I have tryed to find the file on the system and start it without any luck.

I downloade ce from here = Download Community Edition | Nutanix Community

The full line says = Failed to start systems Management Device Drivers.
See ‘systemctl status instsvcdrv.service’ for more details.

The only other ones i found on here with the same problem was Nutanix CE fails to install | Nutanix Community

you need to provide more information, is the installation successful?
where are you trying to install it? on a virtual machine?which software you are using as host ?

@ahmad.jamali

I am trying to install it on 3 nutanix nodes (The nodes that i am using is NX-8035-G6)
I don´t believe that the installation was successful even tho when i use a vga kabel on the nodes it comes up with root@phoenix ~]#

But under the installation it comes up with

“Failed to start systems management device driver”

Here is a long version of what i tryed

@Maark
so as I understood, you have Nutanix nodes, and you are trying to install Nutanix CE (community edition ) on top of them, correct?
but why are you using foundation with nutanix community edition?if you like to install Nutanix CE, simply create a bootable USB with the downloaded ISO and boot each node from it , once the installation is finish, create the clusters,for Nutanix CE, you must have registered for nutanix CE, and active next account (which you have already).and your cluster must be connected to Internet.

you can do foundation with production AOS and AHV which is available in download section under my.nutanix.com

@ahmad.jamali

Yeah that is correct.

I thought that you needed Nutanix CE (community edition) and the AOS and AHV on top.

And then i would try to creat a cluster through foundation

Nutnaix CE is for LAB environment (free of charge) which has its limitation as well.
so if this is a LAB environment, you can use Nutanix CE.
if this for production, or you like to try it out how foundation is done, you can use the foundation and then the AOS and AHV/ESXI ISO to do the deployment.

let me know if you need further assistance.

I need further assistance, that i am new to nutanix.

If i want to use it for production, is it then done the same way as phoenix? I creat a bootable usb and boot the nodes into it? And then i would be able to find them with portal foundation.

short answer, No it is not the same way.
for production , you need to use foundation.
you can refer to below link:
Nutanix Foundation (expand cluster) – tech journey
just until the foundation is over, and then you can create the cluster (as you do not have any existing cluster to expand).
for foundation, I suggest, you connect your notebook to a flat switch and connect each node IPMI and host network( usually the network port on left) to the flat switch.
Foundation does the discovery over IPV6 broadcast which is blocked on managed switches.
rest of the steps you can follow from above link.(dont forget to download your AOS and AHV ISO’s (and foundation if you do not have already) from my.nutanix.com

cheers.

@ahmad.jamali

Thank you for your time.

That was the first thing i tryed, and foud the 3 nodes. But after i did the config and i tryed to creat a cluster it stop / failed at around 43%. (I forgot to download the log of why it failed)

And now i can´t find the nodes through foundation, that´s why i tryed phoenix.

Even when i tryed to put the nodes in manually with IPMI, Host ip and cvm it would not find them / accept

Im not sure what you did exactly.

Did you put cvm/host and ipmi IPs in same subnet?did you put vlan ID in foundation?

If you are not able to login to host (via VGA) nor you can access ipmi,via IP,you can reboot each node and from setup change the IPMi (BMC) IP.

If you have correct IPMI and you can ping and connect to it but foundation is not discovering it,

Make sure you are connected to a flat switch as well as your notebook(link i have provided to you)

Sometimes foundation fails to discover but if you check the first page of foundation,you much ensure your foundation network interface does have IP address for IPMI and AOS subnet added.(first page down ).that is very important.if from notebook you are not able to ping IPMI ,that means something is wrong.

Yes i put the cvm/host and ipmi IPs in same subnet in foundation but no vlan.

I can login as root on each node (via VGA) But not when i try the webinterface / the ip of the node.

It tell me wrong user or password. i tryed “ADMIN & ADMIN” and “ADMIN & Serial number of the node”

But it did not work.

The switch i am useing to connect them is a nexus switch. I can ping each node via powershell when i am connect to the switch. But foundation can not find the nodes.

And my laptop is running on the same ip range as the nodes
