I'm adding workloads a new Scenario with Sizer Nutanix and I have a doubt about the sizing design because when I add a MV with 384 GB RAM the recomendation of Nodes are only 256 GB or 192 GB of RAM Memory. Could we explain why this. Regards
According to the documentation, Backplane traffic segmentation is [u]not[/u] supported in a configuration for "ESXi clusters in which the CVM is connected to a VMware distributed virtual switch" . What I'd like to understand is whether this is related to technical reasons, or it is just a configuration limitation of the CVM installer/Prism management? So far I counldn't find a comprehensive guide/document about setting up a Nutanix cluster with vSphere distributed switches, and nodes with 2x10gbps each. It doesn't seem to make sense to me to set this up with standard swtches (i.e. no Network I/O control) where all traffic (VM, storage, vMotion, ...) use the same physical uplinks.

Hello, I need to understand how nutanix snapshot he lives together with vmware snapshot. It's possible to protect VM with Nutanix snapshot although maybe some users make snapshots from vmware side ? Do they work together ? are there any contraindications or special attentions ? Do they not interfere with each other? I think only be careful not to interfere any restore snapshot from nutanix side with any backup/snapshot made vmware side (aka veeam) ? Thanks Manuel

I'm new to Nutanix and learning as I go. I'm looking at monitoring and alerting and noticed an alert that has not auto resolved. The specific alert is: Node Marked To Be Detached From Metadata Ring I've run ALL NCC Health Checks on the node and it comes back healthy. This alert is set to auto resolve but for some reason will not resolve. I check policy and the auto-resolve checkbox is checked. I did some digging and found a KB article (#000004269) for alert_auto_resolve_helper. I read about this NCC check and I don't see this as an available check in my environment. Any thoughts and tips are appreciated. Thanks!
We normally keep a handful of template VM’s with different type of OS that are updated and “ready to go” and use these for global automation when deploying new machines. I would like a way to deploy these templates as qcow2 images globally using the Prism Central image management. After a template VM are updated, I would like to automate them beeing converted to qcow2 images (already got this working with “qemu-img convert” command) and then import the qcow2 image to the Image repository in Prism Central to be distributed to all sites. The last step I have not managed to figure out how to do. Obviously I need some kind of API or CLI to automate this but all I find is how to do this using the GUI in PC. Did I miss something?
Hi, My customer is considering leveraging NearSyncDR for their production clusters. Looks like I have to explain to them how NearSync should be configured and how it works to match their needs for future plan. As it matters, I have dived around Nutanix portal for some documents related to this technology but nothing explains clearly why it should run by its behavior in the example below: In the case I configured a schedule that repeats 1 min and retention policy of local cluster for 5 days, NearSync will work as that it will: [list] [*]Create a snapshot per minute and retain it for 15 minutes. [*]Create hourly snapshots and retain for 6 hours. [*]Create daily snapshots and retain for 5 days. [/list]So the question is if a snapshot A was created and deleted in 15 mins later, in the case user wanted to use this snapshot A to recover his file, how did he do? Is snapshot retaining time able to be changed by any command?

Hello all, i'm trying to build a very simple home lab so i can get through the NCP cert, hopefully prior to our new nutanix gear arrives at my work. at home i have an i7 8700k, 16gb of ram, and several HDDs. i also have a NAS device. i run windows 10 on my one available machine. my issue is this: i can only feasibly spare 12 gb of ram, and i dont have a dedicated 200 GB SSD, but i have several terabytes of HDD storage available. is it possible for me to get a home lab up and running with this config? using VMWare Workstation or something similar? thanks, Tony

Hi !I want to make an image of a windows server on the ABS disk. How can I copy the file to images on CVM to start migrate the Fysical server to Virtual. WinSCP is so slow so it will take 6-7 hours. To write it to ABS iSCSI it is fast but only problem to copy it to AOS. File system is NTFS.thanks!-Kim W-
I am having an issue adding a share to a new AFS instance where it reports “iSCSI discovery of targets failed to iSCSI portal xxx.xxx.10.5. Ensure that the stargate external data services IP and the CVM IPs are reachable from FSVM.” I have confirmed the CVM IP’s and FSVM IP’s are all bound to the eth0 interface of there respective devices and are all in the same xxx.xxx.10.xxx network segment. All devices can ping all IP’s in the range so at least basic comms are working. I am sure I am missing something obvious but not sure where to go from here. Suggestions please!
I just deployed a Witness VM (ESXi) for our first 2 node cluster and after setting the IP and reboot it gets the host name NTNX-<IP NUMBER>-A-CVM.Since it seems the witness VM is a kind of CVM I assume it wants to use the NTNX-<NAME>-CVM naming convention or it is OK to set the host name to whatever?Worked fine using “sudo /usr/local/nutanix/cluster/bin/change_cvm_hostname <hostname>” to set the host name.
For Files Analytics, are the ports required TCP or UDP? I know that the ports to open are 7, 3000, 29092 but just wanted to be clear on tcp or udp. Thanks

Hello,My client has this alert "Active Directory Domain Contoller(s) or DNS servers configured on the UVMs in the cluster" due the fact that he moved his domain controller on the nutanix cluster. His environment is 100% Hyper-V, and he is totally aware that SMB3 share of the nutanix cluster, requires authentication from the domain. In order to avoid that my client created ISCSI volumes and presented them to his Hyper-V environment, on which he moved his domain controller, trying to avoid that type of failure if everything goes down after a power failure and when everything comes up, the domain controller to be able to boot prior of the authentication.Please let us know what's the best approach for this matter and what's your recommendation for this kind of setup, especially when all the domain controllers are virtualized.Regards,Adrian

Hi community I am planning an upgrade of our Hypervisor of ESXi from VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 8294253 to 6.5 U3 Latest build. Just wanted to get some feedback whether the process I have would be the correct one? first time we plan to use the one click upgrade process! We have 2 clusters, a production and DR cluster. We do use Data protection and Async DR and I believe that the target Async environment needs to be updated first which is the preferred option anyway. This is the approach I was going to take. Any feedback on this would be great. Hi everyone, I have an issue with a newly purchased NX-1175S-G6 that need to deploy at the EU environment.The system doesn’t allow to raise a case to the support portal.The installation just can’t seems to pass through the foundation stage.The latest place it stuck is at the screenshot. That is still just a small part. Before this when I try to put in VLAN to setup, it just can’t get through it. Anyone can guide me to a correct direction? Thanks
