I am looking to replace my SSL certificates on my Prism Central and Prism Element deployments with Lets Encrypt wildcard certificates. I can request the wildcard certificates easily enough sudo certbot -d example.com -d *.example.com --manual --preferred-challenges dns-01 --server https://acme-v02.api.letsencrypt.org/directory certonly I get generated three files: privkey = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/privkey.pem chain = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/chain.pem fullchain = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/fullchain.pem Can anyone advise what openssl commands I can use to convert these .pem files to the required format needed for Prism Central/Prism Element? I have attempted multiple commands from https://www.sslsupportdesk.com/openssl-commands/ but I can't seem to find the exact one. I can also grab the intermediate/root certificates from here if I need additional certs. ht

To reboot an ESXi host, to trigger a PPR for a DIMM for example, when DRS is on and fully automated there a few questions to be answered before putting together a sequence of steps.First of, should we disable the DRS? When a host is taken out of the maintenance mode the DRS will rebalance the load on the host and as such VMs will migrated back onto the host that has just exited maintenance. What if the CVM is not ready? After all, the CVM is the entity the serves storage to the VMs. Will be VMs affected if the CVM is not fully booted or has not exited maintenance mode by the time VMs are returned to the host? Luckily, the VMs will not be imacted in any way as at the time of placing CVM into the maintenance mode the storage traffic is re-routed and is now handled by other CVMs in the cluster.Should we evacuate powered off VMs for a host reboot? Title is most of the question… I have a 3-node, local-only cluster (no remote / stretch replication or anything). What do I gain from setting up Prism Central? It seems like Prism Element gives me all of the management capabilities I need (running AHV, probably won’t have more than 20-40 VMs).It feels like standing up PC, even in the single-VM / non-redundant version, will just be a waste of RAM and storage on the cluster. Is there some compelling argument for Central that I’m overlooking because I’m a Nutanix noob?

Hi Everyone,I want to ask some questions.I have 1365G6 , and then there will be two 8235G7 and one 8135G7.When all 8000 join 1365, there will be a total of 4 blocks and a total of 8 nodes.If I enable BLOCK FAULT TOLERANCE, how to calculate the available space ? After enable BLOCK FAULT TOLERANCE can I remove the two 8000s and reinstall them as a backup cluster?? Or can it return fault tolerance domain to nodes?Thanks

I want to fetch report results from Prism Central, and thought the Prism v3 API might do that.  I get a 404 when I call any of the reports endpoints.  Other API calls I have tried work as expected, including for vms, clusters, and others.For example doing a POST to this address:https://myprismcentral:9440/api/nutanix/v3/report_configs/listreturns HTTP 404 and this message:{"message": "The requested URL was not found on the server.  If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again. Greetings all--  I’m curious what larger Nutanix (over 20k VMs) are doing when it comes to VM management.  Let’s say vCenter/VMM are out of the picture and it’s all a native AHV/PrismCentral environment; however, it’s got clusters scattered all over the country with various VM admins needing access to their own cluster’s VMs (not hosts) while the clusters are all still being managed centrally.  Is there a folder/OU type of construct that you can permission out?  How about multiple application owners within the same cluster-- can you give app-owner-x access to just their VMs while app-owner-y only sees/accesses their own VMs?Really just learning at this point if that kind of scaled out VM management is capable with large AHV/Prism environments?  Thanks for any insights!

Hi, I have a query regarding the snapshot reference numbers in a replication alert I received recently.  The error message is 'Replication was skipped for protection domain xxxx-Policy of snapshot (4779634355498612345, 1559835678912345, 75812345) to remote site xxxx-DR. Replication was skipped as a newer Recovery Point was available'.  I understand the last number refers to the ID of the snapshot but what do the two longer numbers refer to?  Many thanks.

Anyone experience issues with Windows VMs, Server 2016 and 2019 in my case, not respecting a “Guest Shutdown” action if there hasn’t been any console activity for a while? This occurs with a Prism GUI shutdown or an API call to v2/vms/{uuid}/set_power_stateIs there a setting within Windows that is preventing this or is it a Nutanix issue? Thanks.

When a host running production workloads can become inaccessible or fails due to an unplanned event, AHV will restart the VMs on other hosts automatically (similar to ESXi). For tracking purposes, it is important to get a list of VMs that were running on the failed node and restarted across other nodes in the cluster.One way to gather this information is via the Prism web page. Each time there is an HA event, a task is generated in Prism that will give you a list of VMs that were restarted.Another method is to use the command line interface to look at the tasks and match the output UUID with the UUIDs of the VMs in Acropolis.More information about the above two methods can be found in KB 8956.

Whenever I take snapshots from Prism Central it shows under Recovery point but not under Snapshot. Not sure, if both are same Thing. Also, recovery point give an option to “Replicate” , whereas Snapshot give an option to “Restore”….are both same?

 Our datacenter experienced a power outage yesterday and when power was restored Nutanix powered up and everything was operational (Yay!). I've been attempting to find the setting that told the nodes to power up after an event like that rather than stay powered off. On desktop systems I know the BIOS has settings for power events like that but cannot find it in the IPMI web interface. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Thanks.

Previously, adding an OVA image into an AHV cluster was a manual experience, involving un-tarring an OVA file and importing associated VMDK files using AHV’s Image Management.Now, from within Prism Central, you have the ability to natively import and export OVA files. When it comes to passwords, I am the worst. I can not remember a single password I have. Worse, I struggle to type it correctly. In some way, this is an advantage as I have to reset all my passwords frequently. While you, reader, may think that this does not apply to you, I am confident I am not alone in my struggle. Incidentally, I have seen a few cases dedicated to being unable to log in to Prism with admin credentials or to a CVM as nutanix. Below is a very generic approach on how to handle the issue.First of all, I feel compelled to remind you that there is a lock out timeout for consecutive failed authentications. By default, the timeout is 15 minutes, but you can unlock the account from a CVM when logged as nutanix.In some cases, a password is simply unknown for whatever reason. The Health Page within Prism is a great resource to keep track of the status of your environment. With a simple dashboard layout, the health page provides checks for many components of the Nutanix environment. This dashboard is dynamically updated with health information based upon Nutanix Cluster Checks (NCC) which execute at specific time intervals.Historical data is also captured and presented in this dashboard using a table and graphical layout. It’s over a hump day so a quick tip today.In AHV if you ever attach a VM’s disk to a Windows VM and then delete the disk owner VM you will still see the disk as attached and browsable. Refreshing disk information in Disk Management utility in Windows will result in marking the disk as “Not Initialised”. If you are running AOS 5.10.9 or below or AOS 5.11.1 and thinking of upgrading or have already scheduled one there is on thing to consider prior to executing the task.Check the size of localhost_access_log.txt file.
