Hi All,

Would like to seek your advice/recommendation way to migrate physical linux/windows to Nutanix AHV via free tools ONLY without purchase third party tools or additional costs.

Just wondering is there any tools that available for us or any alternative way without any additional costs?

We have some requirements;

  • 5 physical linux servers.
  • 5 physical windows servers.

Appreciate it in advanced.

Regards,

John

Hi John,

Two ways you can achieve this

Option 1 (backup)

If you have Veeam latest version you can take backup and restore directly to AHV (time between backup starts and restoration this to be considered as downtime and any changes will be considered as data lose)

Option 2 (migration)

It will have to be two step migration.

First You can use vcenter converter to do P2V to an existing ESXi host or to a temporary one with trail license.

Then you can use Nutanix move (free) tool to migrate V2V VMware to AHV.

@Mr.Nutanix If you have ESXi environment in place, the easiest, quickest and cheapestway to go about it is P2V conversion followed by migration using move tool.

Hi Aabdelshaf & Haritha,

Many thanks for your advice.

We will test it out accordingly (Option 2).

Really appreciate it.
