How to get off the sidelines and accomplish your datacenter modernization goals
This is a guest post from Joseph George, Vice President of Compute, Industry and Strategic Alliances, Hewlett Packard Enterprise
When I talk to customers, nearly all of them have datacenter modernization on their minds. Some want to free themselves from the cost concerns and risks of legacy IT so they can simply run existing applications with better performance, efficiency, and security. Some want the latest IT so they can take advantage of cool new technologies like AI, blockchain, containers, and quantum computing.
Many want to do all of this. And nearly all of them hope modernization will help them overcome challenges with staffing shortages, budget pressures, and the need to reduce energy consumption to fight rising energy costs and meet sustainability goals.
Datacenter modernization done right can help you accomplish these goals and more. It can help you do more with less and stretch budget and staff resources. It can help you pack more performance into a smaller space and power envelope to save operational costs and energy. And it can enable you to run legacy and modern workloads on just the right mix of resources for optimum price and performance.
It's an incredible vision, and one that’s quite possible to achieve. But many organizations find themselves sitting on the modernization sidelines, unsure of how to get from where they are to where they want to be. These organizations understand that datacenter modernization isn’t a one-time fix. It’s an ongoing process that needs to be solved for very specific demands at each step. As you can imagine, this gets complicated really fast.
For example, most customers I talk to are already running workloads in the public cloud as part of their modernization strategy. They appreciate the flexibility and scalability of the public cloud, but unpredictable costs, data sovereignty concerns, and latency/performance issues have made it clear that not all workloads are the right fit for the public cloud.
At the same time, datacenter complexity is stretching short-staffed IT departments more than ever before. So, starting down the path to modernization requires a series of decisions around where to put critical workloads to optimize cost, performance and security for each one.
What goes into the public cloud? What stays on-premises, at a colocation facility or at the edge? Do any workloads need to be moved from the cloud back to the datacenter? How do you manage it all across databases, mission-critical applications, VDI, and so on?
At HPE, we understand our customer’s modernization challenges, and we work together with our partners to help make these kinds of decisions easier for you. That’s why a combined HPE GreenLake, Nutanix and Intel solution offers unmatched performance and flexibility to build the exact cloud you want – on your own terms.
With HPE, Nutanix and Intel, you get the flexibility of an outcome-based consumption model, capable of supporting private and hybrid clouds, databases, mission-critical applications, and VDI/end-user computing workloads.
To begin with, hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) has proven to provide a big advantage for resource-constrained organizations in today’s tough IT talent market. Nutanix delivers innovative HCI software that accelerates application delivery, with high-performing scalability and simplified management.
It comes in easy-to-deploy building blocks so you can grow as you go. And to allow you to pay as you go, HPE offers a way to procure combined Nutanix software and HPE hardware in a true pay-per-use model via HPE GreenLake, with API-driven integrations, self-service purchasing and comprehensive managed-services options.
For added confidence, HPE, Nutanix and Intel have a long history of delivering enterprise-class solutions with services organizations that help our customers succeed with the solutions they choose – so you don’t have to go it alone.
Here are a few examples where we enabled customers to achieve their goals:
- We helped a quantum computing technology company transition from a 100% public cloud model to 80% private cloud to help them solve OpEx challenges.
- We guided a banking customer from bare metal to a 100% virtualization environment to supercharge its application evolution and hybrid cloud strategy.
- We led a major pharmaceutical company in its transition to a 24x7x365 manufacturing model with a zero-recovery-time factory floor.
All three of these customers were successful with an HPE GreenLake, Nutanix and Intel solution, creating a precedent you can count on.
Together, HPE, Nutanix and Intel can help you realize your modernization vision with a simple and unique pay-per-use approach that gives you more choices to meet your organization’s needs. We like to say we keep it simple and scalable on the back end so you can focus on putting technology to work for your business.
