How to increase the sinze of Prism Central?

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

In this single-node hardware environment (24C/384GB/4x800GB) I have installed Nutanix CE 2.1 which work fine.  I then wanted to test Prism Central and deployed it in size x-small which turned out to be too small (could not do all fun stuff).  How do I increase it to size small instaead?

I tried to just add the extra cpus and memory to match the size of small, but that was not enough, it still said that it was x-small.  Then I tried to remove PC to create a new larger one, but it wasn’t as easy as I thought.  The VM wasn’t possible to delete without deregister but the deregister was blocked but a objects-lite database which wasn’t possible to remove!  It just referred to KB-17159 which literally only said “Contact Nutanix support”…  But this is CE and I’m just a partner playing around without support…

Any procedure for size upgrade of Prism Central?  (I searched in the portal but failed)

Hello,

To my knowledge, it's not possible to upgrade the Prism Central XS to the Small/Large/X-Large, not because the processor and RAM don't match, but because this smaller version lacks several features.

You can find more about this here : https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Prism-Central-Guide-vpc_2024_2:mul-xs-pc-c.html

In that document it says “To enable these features, you must upgrade to a small, large or x-large Prism Central deployment. For more information, contact Nutanix Support.” which indicates that there is an upgrade path, but maybe it means a complete deinstall and reinstall with the help of low level commands issued by the support technicians…

It might look friendly on the surface but when digging into the details there are these tricky low level commands hiding :-)  (ncli, acli, ecli, ...)

Just ran into this issue myself. You’ll have to SSH into the CVM as the nutanix user in order to delete your xsmall PCVM. Once that’s done, run through “Scenario 2” from the unregister KB: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000XeZjCAK

I had no issue spinning up a small after that.

Ok, did you have the latest version of xsmall PC before you deleted it?  For me it complained about relations to an objects-lite database which I failed to get rid of.  I got the impression that this relation was intruduced lately.

In any case I ended up reinstalling the cluster from scratch with a larger PC which gave me some more installation experience :-)

I’m running AOS 6.10.1 and PC 2024.3.1; they’re the most recent versions available to me in LCM. I was also running into the object-lite exception when trying to unregister my PC. That’s when I decided to just nuke the PC VM and then delete the registration record from PE.

I had just rebuilt my cluster because my cvm drive failed and was really trying not to rebuild again lol.

Glad you got PE and PC up and running again!
