I’m running PC Scaleout (5.16.1.2) on ESXi and need to migrate all 3 nodes to a new datacenter cluster and datastore (same vcenter). Is there a recommended process for this or can I simply power down one of the 3 nodes, migrate it, power it up and wait for all cluster services to start, and then move on to the next one?

Hello @mandg , Could you please confirm if you are moving the physical servers or just want to migrate PC to the different cluster?

Hey @mandg , let me search for a process documented somewhere for this, in the meantime can you tell me if you are using CALM/SSP/Leap or anything. Also, the new ESXi hosts on which you are going to migrate the PC-VMs are they part of the same Nutanix cluster?

@Tapati - I am just looking to migrate the (3) PC CVM’s  - not their physical nodes.

@AnishWalia20 - we have CALM licensed but are not actually using it. The PC-VM’s that I want to migrate are NOT part of the same Nutanix cluster.

Thanks!

 Hey @mandg,

I would suggest you to wait for migrating the Prism Central. Using Data Protection is not a supported method currently to migrate Prism Central VM(s). The main thing to be concerned about is if the IP address will be different for the VM in the new cluster.

We have a supported way of doing this coming up in AOS 5.17.1 and it basically works like HA. Power off the Prism Central VM(s) on source cluster and create them on the destination cluster.

If it is possible to wait until then, I would suggest going via that route.

Also, you would have to open a support ticket for it as it’s planned to be in an internal KB (for now).

Thank you, @nim - I was intending on keeping the same ip addresses so that’s not a concern.

Also, I was not planning on using any Protection Domains for these migrations but rather just performing a ‘vmotion’ and ‘storage vmotion’ in VMware on one PC-VM at a time.

I will let my management know that we should wait until AOS 5.17.1 is released - do you know have an estimated timeline for it’s release? Thanks!

@mandg 5.17.1 should be released in the next few days. We are targeting early July.

Protection Domains and vmotion could have similar results as we have seen discrepancies with the PC VM UUID post migration.

PS: You have mentioned above you are not using CALM, but I wanted to point out as well that the new solution cannot be used if you use Karbon/Objects/CALM and a couple more PC only features.

Thanks, @nim - with regards to CALM, we did license it however we’re not actively using it. If we did migrate the PC-VM’s when 5.1.17.1 is released, I assume that we could then just install CALM from scratch?

Yes you can install the features AFTER migration is complete!

Hey @mandg , I think @nim answered it pretty well. Thanks a lot, @nim for the clarification.

Cheers folks.
