Issue Converting VHDX with 4K Logical sector size | Nutanix Community
Skip to main content

We are using Image configuration to upload and convert the VHDXs and so far it works except when we attempt to upload 4K sector aligned VHDXs from an old HyperV cluster, the upload completes successfully but the conversion fails.

Is it possible to migrate and convert 4K sector  aligned VHDXs to a Nutanix AHV cluster?

Have you tried to migrate the VM from Hyper V to Nutanix AHV through Nutanix Move?

If not, I would encourage to use Nutanix Move to migrate the VM from Hyper V to Nutanix AHV. Here is the guide for Nutanix Move 3.5

If you face any further issue with Nutanix Move feel free to reach out to us...

I have deployed Nutanix Move and while it’s a huge time saver, it did not solve my issue. I Will continue to use Move for VMs without 4K logical sector size, because it works great there.

While the Move appears to complete successfully, disks with the 4K logical block size  ends up corrupted and not in non-boot-able condition.

During the process and before the cut-over I can tell that Disks didn’t copy correctly because of the discrepancy the amount of data Nutanix Move shows as migrated and the actual amount of data on the original Disks.

So I’m back to my original issue, Is it possible to migrate and convert 4K sector aligned (logical and physical sector size is 4K) VHDXs to a Nutanix AHV cluster?

Hi @NUser3565  It is possible but not rightly recommended to do without Nutanix Move. Ideally, it should work with Nutanix Move and if there is a discrepancy in the data post-migration then this needs to be investigated in detail way.

I would request you to open a support case to investigate further on this. If possible help me with the support case number and will take this further
