Nutanix Files Episode 4.2.1 - WORM Gains Compliance SupportBlog

The release of the Nutanix Files ™ 4.2.1 software version adds support for compliance level WORM within Files Storage Service of Nutanix Unified Storage. If you recall from our 4.1 release we introduced support for WORM (see the blog here Nutanix Files Episode 4.1 - A Security Story ). In the 4.1 release, Files introduced support for Enterprise or Governance level WORM allowing customers to store files in a write-once-read-many state.However, a user can still be granted access to conduct what are called “privileged deletes”. The privileged access allows operators with the proper permissions the ability to expire a WORM file before the retention timer elapses. This could be fine for organizations where the business requirements are not aligned or not needed to adhere to regulatory requirements to retain WORM stored data in a locked state until the policy expires. However, the ability to delete data before WORM policy expiration is not acceptable for heavily regulated industries that req

Honey I Shrunk My Cluster (Multiple Nodes Down in RF2)Blog

This post was authored by Jeroen Tielen (Tielen Consultancy) Nutanix Technology Champion Within Nutanix we have Replication Factor (How many data copies are written in the cluster) and Redundancy Factor (how many nodes/disks can go offline). Both can have a value of 2 and 3. What is what is explained here: Blog Post. So, when we have a larger cluster, we always recommend using RF3 (Redundancy Factor 3) as the risk is higher that you have multiple nodes/disks go offline at the same time. During trainings and onsite customer work I often get the question, "what will happen if multiple nodes go offline in Redundancy Factor 2?" In this blog post I will explain different scenarios and their behaviors. My cluster is 7 nodes and configured with RF2 (Redundancy and Replication) and HA Reservation is enabled. I've got 30 Windows 11 VDI's (Yes, with vTPM ;)) running in the cluster and all load is spread across the nodes. This is the current usage on the cluster: Now 1 node will go offline. Or in

The Storage of the Cloud but in Your DatacenterBlog

Independent industry reports tell us that the Global Datasphere [1] – the summation of all globally stored digital data – will grow to 175 zettabytes (ZB) by 2025. To give an idea of that kind of scale, the recent increase in interconnectedness of all things means the average household already fills over 300 iPhones (32 GB) in a year! At that kind of scale and growth, the usual file and block storage paradigms become too unwieldy in terms of management and performance. Object storage is built for hyper-scale and can handle the ever-growing unstructured data mix of social media, video, audio, log files, sensor data, and emails. Objects are stored as constituent pieces of data, essentially a flat list of objects that make up the file.
