Hello, I’m new to Nutanix and setting up DR for VMs on vSphere ESXi.

While failover from primary to DR site is straight-forward, I was wondering on the amount of time for failback. Normally, when failback is initiated, it will replicate changed blocks from DR site to primary site.

And this may take a while depending on the changes occurred while at DR.

Is it possible to do reverse replication while still at DR? This way, when failback is initiated, only the few remaining changed blocks need to be replicated - shortening the failback time.

Thanks for your comments

Depending how you setup the DR. (RPO)

If you have snapshots taken at a shorter interval then the failover is faster (hence, less data needs to be copied).

Thanks. But is possible to set up reverse replication - even prior to initiating failback?

This way, the DR and primary sites will be mostly in sync such that when initiating failback, there is only the remaining changed blocks to be replicated.

Are you setting up DR in Prism Central (protection policies) or in Prism Element (Protection Domains).

Within Prism Central, the reverse replication is automatic when failing over. (planned failover, of course). Within Prism Element, you need to create a new schedule when migrate.

Thanks a lot for your help. This answers my question.
