SMTP Server Settings for Office365

Hello All, How should I provide SMTP Server settings when the mail server is in the cloud (Office365) ?As shown below, I tried with this mail server smtp.office365.com but the “email test” failed : Thanks in advance.

diagnostic.py failed to run on ESXi 7

Hi I deploy a 3 nodes cluster with ESXi 7.0 as the hypervisor successfully on AOS 5.15.3.But when I run the diagnostic.py to check the  cluster performance. It always failed to boot the diagnostic VM. I tried 3 times and all is same. from the log, seems the CVM cannot reache the diagnostic VM when check the boot status.I login to vCenter and check that there is no IP address for this VM in the summary page. And I can login the diagnostic VM from the VM console, I can check the ip address which is 192.168.5.253, but I cannot ping 192.168.5.254 and 192.168.5.1. also cannot ping 192.168.5.253 from CVM.From this information, I think the CVM cannot reache the diagnostic VM and timeout, so the diagnostic.py will fail after timeout. Is there any idear for this test? I can run thie script successfully in ESXi 6.7.

vCenter Server Appliance upgrade (6.7 to 7.0)

The upgrade process for the VCSA from a major release to another is as follows:A new VCSA with a temp IP is created in the vSphere host/cluster by the upgrade process. The upgrade process migrates the config/data from the old VCSA to the new one. The Old VCSA is shutdown and the new VCSA is renamed/re-ip with the values of the old VCSA. New VCSA is then rebooted.At this point the new VCSA should have the old VCSA name and IP address.  My question for those that have done this already is, how does the Nutanix cluster Prism element reacts to this in regards to its vcenter registration? Will all this be transparent to it or will it see the new VCSA as a new device and create a duplicate entry? I assume the migration process will copy SSH keys and certs from the old VCSA to the new one so Prism won’t bat an eye, but I just wanted to confirm.

How to reset failed disk?

One of my physical disks failed because it had a loose connection in the drive bay. Where do I reset a flag for the failed disk or something similar that Nutanix tries again with the same disk?(xpost: https://www.reddit.com/r/nutanix/comments/j4jl4f/how_to_reset_failed_disk/)

Move ESX nodes from 1 cluster to another

Hey all -We removed 2 nodes from 1 cluster and want to add them to another.  We disconnected from vCenter and then removed them from the cluster using PE.  When they were relocated to the new location, the vlan is the same and they could keep their same IP addresses, but the new cluster could not see them.  It sounds like the customer had configured Distributed switches on the old cluster.  Do I need to undo some of that networking to see the hosts?  Would bare metal foundation be a better option and put AHV on the nodes?  That is our next route, but I still think there is a problem with the network configured in ESX even for that.  Is there any documentation around undoing the vmware networking for bare metal?  With factory nodes, I would have just added them to the same vlan and assigned IPs using crashcart and then the cluster should have seen them.  Help!

Have a customer that has a question, and we are not sure if it can work or not

We have a customer that asks if they can use the serial port to pass data to the VMs and then get that data sent out from the servers? Does anyone know if this can be done with the serial ports for the Nutanix NX-3460-G7

Manual cluster create fails after host remove.

Hello, All.Good day!! I have an issue and need your help and advice. 1. using 10 nodes, but I want to configure 2 clusters with 5 nodes each. (Composed of RF3) 2. Hi,I would need some guidance on enabling Aide on AHV and CVM and strong password policy for the hardening.I found the guide on this link: Hardening Controller VMIf I enable the AIDE on AHV and CVM. Is there anything need to be done? Additional appliance to deploy?

nutanix and commvault integration and installation

Hello All, currently i am working on this project that uses nutanix 4 nodes and commvault as a backup and recovery solution and also have tape disks for archiving, now i have already installed commvault commserv on nutanix as a virtual machine but the trouble i am having is how to configure the storage for commvault and how to integrate the tape library to the nutanix node so that commvault can access it and made archive to it. please any advice and best practice you know will be very help full i am new to this kind of configuration.

Hybrid cold/hot data ratio non disk size dependent

Hello team, I hope that someone can explain to me why, looking to sizer’s recommandations about hybrid configuations, SSD/HDD ratio is not size dependent but form factor dependent. Basically if you select 2 SSD and 3.5”HDD then a minimum 1:1 ratio is possible (SSDx2 + HDDx2) but if you have have SSDx2 and 2.5” HDD then the minimum ratio is 1:2 (SSDx2 + HDDx4). Is it because 3.5” HDD SAS or SATA are usually faster than 2.5”? It’s not about size or hardware vendor, recommandations seems to changes according to the disks form factor only

What is a Never-Schedulable Node?

If you want to increase data storage on your Nutanix cluster, but do not want any AHV VMs to run on that node, you can add a Never-Schedulable Node to your cluster. AOS will not run any VMs on a never-schedulable node, whether at the time of deployment of new VMs, during the migration of VMs from one host to another (in the event of a host failure), or during any other VM operations. Therefore, a never-schedulable node configuration ensures that no additional compute resources such as CPUs are consumed from the Nutanix cluster.With the release of Foundation 4.1 and higher, any G6 or G7 node can now be used as a storage-only node. You can add any number of never-schedulable nodes to your cluster!To learn more about the requirements and the procedure to add this node, click here. Also, check out KB-6819 for further instructions.

CCTV onto SSD instead of HDD

Hello Nutanix CommunityI have a VM that is running CCTV operations. I record multiple video streams in a high resolution and frame rate. Old files get deleted when the space is used up. How can I make sure that the SSDs are not being used for the recording to avoid them to get too many write cycles too fast?Kind regards,Ibinema

Phoenix re-image fails on minimum_reqs.py

minimum_reqs.py The NICs are connected, not sure why its failing. Anyone knows? I have tried with foundation 4.6 and 4.5.4.2 . The Nics are connected an Intel with dell firmware 19.5.12. Existing cluster is running fine with same specs.

Can not configure the network segmentation 2.1 on an existing cluster.

How to change GPU mode on AHV Cluster

In the process of installing the nx-8235-g7 equipment, the foundation cannot perform IPMI MAC ADDRESS DISCOVERY.When the installation was powered on, it was booted into Phoenix.iso and the IPMI IP setting was possible, so the installation was possible with the foundation. Is there any change in IPMI MAC DISCOVERY method from G7 equipment? And when the equipment is received and powered on, it boots into Phoenix.iso. Can you know what this is?And starting from g7, is the IPMI DEFAULT PASSWORD indicated by a sticker on the back of the device where the ipmi ID/PASSWORD is not ADMIN/ADMIN?

Installation basics

Hi there!I’ve installed NutanixCE (twice!) on my existing hardware (custom SuperMicro servers, not Nutanix hardware, though they meet the required specs).  We found it useful, and decided to spring for Ultimate Licenses for the non-Community Edition.So I’ve got those licenses, but now I’m having a heck of a time figuring out what to download and install!  For CE, there was a nice procedure to create an install image on a thumb drive, but I’m not seeing the same thing for non-CE.Can anyone point me to documentation that spells out what needs to be downloaded and how to install it?I’ve already found the AHV admin guide, but that doesn't have installation instructions.I’ve found the “Field Installation Guide - Foundation 4.5.x”, but the “https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Field-Installation-Guide-v4_5:Prepare%20Bare-Metal%20Nodes%20for%20Imaging” section seems impossibly complicated; do I really need to install and configure a VM on virtual box on a laptop in order to

Re-Image Cluster with Phoenix

Hello,I’ve just reimagined a block with 4 nodes (NX-1065-G4) to use in our lab using Phoenix image (created following this article https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Field-Installation-Guide-v3-12:v31-phoenix-files-r.html#reference_bbk_vnx_p4).I’m using ESXi 7.0.0 build 15843807 and NOS 5.15.2. Hypervisor and CVMs have been correctly installed (following this https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Field-Installation-Guide-v3-12:v31-node-install-cvm-t.html) but CVM does not have an IP configured. I’ve tried to configure CVM IP using “external_ip_reconfig” scripts but i get an error: How can i configure CVMs’ IP?Note: i’ve used Phoneix because Foundation failed several times with a “dependencies” error.Thanks, kind regards
