Communication trouble of CVM when building CE on Nested ESXi

Dear All, I am trying to build Nutanix CE into the environment of Nested ESXi. I downloaded and prepared the latest version of ce - 2018.05.01 - stable.img.gz. The ESXi to build the AHV is 6.0. First of all, we started to work as a single node cluster, we plan to develop into a 3 node cluster if it works. 192.168.0.27/24 to AHV, GW: 192.168.0.254. I set up CVM 192.168.0.28/24, GW: 192.168.0.254 and started the installation. After waiting for a while, a message stating that the installation was successful is displayed and the message "Nutanix CVM IP: 192.168.0.28" is displayed. However, only AHV can communicate with this CVM, and it can not communicate with other devices on the same subnet. If you check the Arp Table of another Linux machine on the same subnet, the correct MAC address of CVM is registered but the MAC address of this Linux machine is not registered in the Arp Table of CVM side. Only the MAC Address of AHV is registered in the Arp Table of CVM. CVM can not communic

Regenerating License for cluster

Hi, We have applied license to Nutanix cluster running on vSphere. Then we created cluster with AHV from scratch without reclaiming it from Nutanix portal. How to regenerate license for newly created license? Thanks in advance. Vivek

Server perfoming very slow

Nutanix, AHV, MS Server 2016 installed with IIS, Media Wiki.Out of the blue, the server performs very slow.  The MediaWiki site takes forever to load ( at times a Server 500 error appears when going to the MediaWiki site from a desktop).  Opening the console shows the Server logon window but very slow.  Everything is very slow.  Once logged on, it takes almost 20 min for the server management window to open.Currently, vCPU=6, Cores per CPU=4, RAM 16CPU Usage around 10% and Memory usage around 17%Only server that acts like that.  Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth and so on and everything is ok/ no problems. Rebooted all hosts.Not sure what caused this all of a sudden ….

Upgrade to AOS 5.15 or 5.16

I have two upgrade options showing in my Nutanix clusters. One is for a 5.15 release and the other is for a 5.16 release. I'm currently on a 5.11.2.3 release and generally keep my clusters updated to the latest release possible. Normally I'd go to the 5.16 release and not ask this question, but I heard from someone that 5.16 might have some problems in it. Would I be safe upgrading to the 5.16 release, or would it introduce instability into my environment?

Active Directory configuration fails with "Directory config name is invalid"

I cannot seem to get Active Directory authentication configured and cannot figure out why. After following the directions in the support article "Configuring Authentication" I receive the message "Directory config name is invalid". Here is what I have tried: using the IP rather than the host name, turning off the firewall on the DC, using a different AD host, trying different ports (i.e. 389 and 3268), trying a different browser (firefox and IE), specifying the full directory path (/ou=,dc=,dc=) - nothing seems to work. I just keep getting the error message "Directory config name is invalid". I can ping the DC host from the CVM using the FQDN; firewall issues have been ruled out by turning off the firewall; the LDAP url is typed correctly. My thought is that this feature simply isn't working correctly on 4.1.3. Has anyone else experienced problems getting AD configured properly?

Is different Hypervisor support Nutanix cluster?

Hello All, I’m quite new to nutanix, I have a question: Can we add three different hypervisor nodes in a single Nutanix cluster. ex:- if we have three nodes with below hypervisor Node 1 - Esxi Node 2 - AHV Node 3 - Hyper-v So can we add these three servers in nutanix cluster??

Power requirements for 3 node NX-3360

We are getting ready to deploy our first set of clusters and in the preinstall brief we hit a little snag regarding power. The specs state that with dual power supplies you need 208 volts per power supply. I have read in other post that the 3000 series should be OK with 120V if you only have 3 nodes. Can anyone confirm this? My goal is to have redundance if power was lost to a single power supply. If we get the 4th node we will go with 208V, but currently I just don't have that kind of power or mainly a 208/240 UPS.

How to change GPU mode on AHV Cluster

What's the behavior when the Nutanix node local storage is not enough for data of local VM?

Hi All, According to my material on hand that Nutanix will keep a copy in local storage for local data required. So if there are some storage intensive VMs running in one node and the local storage in that node is not enough for data of all local VM, some data should still need to be retrieved in remote node? would like to know the exact behavior. And one more question for DR. If I use vsphere, I still need to buy SRM license or SRM is optional (e.g. for some dedicated features?). For Hyper-V, since the DR feature of Hyper-V is not as rich as VM, can we still use the "Protect Domain" feature in Nutanix for DR in Hyper-V? Thanks a lot in advance! Best Regards, Teru Lei

Nutanix operating in a 'private' cluster (feature workarounds)

Hello, In setting up Nutanix we do not allow it on the Internet. How much does this constrain what we can do with it? ie Life Cycle Management (LCM) Although LCM allows us to point to a different source we will still need to get the Modules somehow? Although LCM lets us start an Inventory it still seems to want to go out and get a Manifest file and then it fails? Can these be downloaded somehow? Where else are we going to find difficulty with? Thank you...

Where can I find NX Physical Specs?

I’m in the sales process and the customer is asking me about the physical requirements of an NX appliance (particularly, the NX-1365-G6). Where can I find this information? Like power consumption, thermal dissipation, dimensions, etc... I know there are some [url=https://www.nutanix.com/products/hardware-platforms]here[/url], but they don’t list all the products there.

vSphere Standard Switch

esxi 6.5 u2 vSwitch configured as 1 active uplink and 1 standby uplink on esxi nutanix. I didnt understand why the standby adapter in which scenarios. I wonder why and in what scenarios it is used. can i use both 10 GB network adaptor active-active mode in Virtual Standard Switches (VSS).

3 node cluster design for 6000 series nodes

I'm putting together a design for a 3 node cluster with the 6000 series nodes. The first block is 6235-G4, the second block, I'm a bit confused. I could get another identicle block with 1 node ( 6135-G4), but there is also the option of getting a 6135C, which is single socket, less RAM, smaller SSD and crappier CPU. It's cheaper and will make the min 3 node cluster, but I'm wondering what kind of performance hit it will have for the overall solution. Am I better off getting a 6135-G4 and being done with it?

Nutanix HW compatibility : CISO NEXUS 3064-X and supermicro

Hi folks ! My client asked me a quite though question today : since we are bounded to CISCO Nexus for physical switches, we digged on a low latency nexus with SFP+ connection. It seems that 3064-X is a good choice but as far as I know, Cisco SFP+ compatibility with 3rd party is azardeous. 2 questions : Are there some kind of hardware restriction w/ Nutanix Supermicro stuff appart from SFP+ cable (MOLEX 074752 series as far as I know) ? Is there a compatibility matrix of this granularity level somewhere ? best regards,

Is ESXi 6.7 U3 supported on Nutanix cluster 5.10.X and later?

For a nutanix cluster to be able to install a newly released hypervisor, the information about it must be already in iso_whitelist file.  This file can be downloaded from Nutanix portal (search for ESXi 6.7 U3) and is required when installing/upgrading hyperviosr using prism one-click.ESXi 6.7 U3 (built number 14320388),  has been out as of Aug, 20, 2019. It is Nutanix policy to support newly release hypervisors within 90 days after they are release by the hyperviosr vendors.As of this writing (Nov 18, 2019), nutanix has released the iso file for this release and is supporting installation of this built on Nutanix clusters 5.10..6 and above.Below is a public KB regarding the support for this release:https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000CsgLCAS

Question on Local disk vs NFS Datastore

A rather simple question :) Once the NFS Datastore has been presented to the nodes, each node shows the NFS Datastore and the Local disk as available storage. My question is, how do others deal with this scenario? What is to stop an admin from storing data to the local data store as opposed to the NFS data store which is where you want them to store their VM's? Curious how others have dealt with this. Storage Node - disk utilization

We added a couple of storage nodes to a modest 3-node cluster that was running out of disk space. The alerts about running out of storage, and not having enough for redundancy, are gone. A few months in, and every time I look in Prism, under Hardware, I see that the storage nodes' "Total Disk Usage" has not gone up very much. The compute nodes' disk usage is about 5-6 times as much as the storage nodes (and the compute nodes actually have more storage onboard than the storage nodes). I understand that Nutanix tries to keep a VM's storage on the same host that provides its compute resources (and the copy is sharded and spread out among other nodes). Is that why I am seeing so little utilisation of the new storage nodes in Prism?

For a customer i'm managing a AHV cluster. One of the virtual machines needs to have direct access to a network interface for monitoring traffic (port mirroring). Is this possible with the current releases of AHV? With kind regards, Ruud

Bridges With Single Uplink

Nutanix AHV uses Open vSwitch(OVS) to connect to the CVM, the hypervisor and the user VMs to each other and to the physical network on each node. The CVM manages the OVS inside the AHV host. Since the OVS is an open source software switch that behaves like a layer-2 learning switch, it maintains a MAC address table. Each AHV server maintains an OVS instance, managed as a single logical switch through Prism. Bonds:When multiple uplinks are used they are added to a bond acting as a single logical interface, to which the bridge is connected. Open vSwitch (OVS) does not support bonds with single uplink and as workaround we directly connect bridge to single uplink.WARNING:Avoid the use of a single uplink configuration and do not attempt to modify a single uplink configuration using manage_ovs if the version of AOS is 5.10.x prior to 5.10.4. Warning:Updating uplinks can cause short network disconnect. Hello Folks, I`m busy installing a 6 node cluster, some errors or doubt comes out along. my environment : 3 block, 6 nodes (2 nodes/block) AOS 4.6.2 一. When I create a new container, make the Enable Erasure coding button checked, error pops up"enable EC-X will break the current block awareness !" seems mean ECX will disable block level awareness ? 二. As many of us know, if need locate the physical slot location of a disk, you can simply led on that drive. but there is possibility led on function inaccurate or disabled, in this scenario, you must locate the disk by disk id rule, e.g shelf id.slot/bay ID, but the DISK ID in prism hardware section seems ramdom/ruleless number, I can`t locate physical location for a disk. 三. When I do the test about removing a node from nutanix cluster, A doubt appears: Do I need or is it the best practice to execute storage vmotion(other then only vmotion vm`s ) before removing the node ? Is your Hypervisor supported by Nutanix
