Hi Guy’s I'm trying to update our Dev environment which runs on community edition, and AOS, NCC etc all working via LCM, for the AHV though it will just keep failing every single time.

It just goes round in a loop watching from the ilo, it first does choose AHV re image, the it reboots and get to that same screen and then just boots to current AHV OS.

So is there a way to do this manually without it affecting the CVM’s config running on them?

Thanks

Mark

What version are you on and which version are you going to?

Hi Jarrodi

I've updated AOS to version 7.3.1.1 no problem and trying to update AHV from version 10.0.1.1 to 10.3.1.1. I did try to go to 10.3.1 as a middle ground to see if that worked but again just fails.

Thanks

Mark

I remember seeing some warnings about going to v10 for AHV.
Here it is, https://next.nutanix.com/discussion-forum-14/please-hold-off-on-ahv-10-upgrades-on-non-enterprise-grade-hardware-44680

Is this applicable to your environment?

Hi jarrodi

looked at this article and our hardware (CPU) is on enterprise level so it should be ok to take the AHV version.

Thanks

Mark

What hardware are you running for these dev environments?

I have never had a fun time trying to perform upgrades on HP hardware which is why we remove it from our environment.

Could it be an issue with the SPP? Those have always been the thing that causes us issue and required engaging HP support to resolve the errors we were seeing.

This boot loop, does it give you any form of usable error or are we flying blind?

Blind lol, i have even manually changed it in ilo to go to reimage AHV but it ignore me and then loops again and then just boots back to current AHV lol, will check SPP’s though thats a good shout.

No worries, let me know what you find. I’m about to jump in a meeting so I’ll check back afterwards.

The described error is described here: https://next.nutanix.com/discussion-forum-14/do-not-upgrade-ce-to-ahv-10-3-and-higher-45028

Running CE on none Nutanix HCL error will trigger that behaviour. Stick to <10.3

You can go to 10.3 or higher. So no need to reinstall. Stick to the running version. Or reinstall, just because you can 🤣

Yeah but it will boot the previous version again and so you can continue on that version. (See my post I linked to).
