Hello,

I'm trying to install Nutanix CE on my workstation. I keep getting “error 1155 could not create tmpvol.bin” and “Failed to create tmpvol”. I've already tried it on two different PCs and with different HDDs and SSDs. I tried it with UEFI and with legacy Bios. What could be the cause of this error?

Thx.

Nobody? No one has a hint?

Do you have a screenshot with the error? And not just the error line but the whole screen.

As it stands, my exploration of Nutanix will end without even beginning. That's a pity.

Are you following any guides and have met all the hardware requirements.

Unfortunately CE is very hardware sensitive.

Jeroen is like the Nutanix CE guru and has a bunch of resources.

I recommend you check out his stuff and see if any of that will help.

I am only in the process of getting CE up and running in my home lab at the moment, so I don’t know if I will be much help but I will try my best.

Thank you I will get a new or another hardware next week an try it again.

But why doesn't the installer check this and report it if the hardware is incompatible?

I don’t know. I think it’s something Nutanix does need to address if they want to enable easier adoption of the product since most admins start by exploring new tech in there home lab and then taking those learning to there work place.

I would be nice if they put some bootstrapper in the installation to perform these checks and guide the users though the installation.

Like I installed proxmox the other day and it took 5 minutes, that’s what it should be like. Not hours on troubleshooting hardware configurations.

I am hoping to setup CE this week in my home lab, so I’ll see how I go.

Well Nutanix is a HCI setup and proxmox installer is just plain hypervisor. That is not the issue. ;)

@YourAdmin did you checked the has of the downloaded ce iso? Is the bootable usb stick not corrupt? The errors looks like the is something wrong on the usb stick.

I've now tried it with a computer that's not as old as the previous one. The installation completed successfully, but now I apparently don't have a bootable drive. No drives are displayed in the boot menu. The computer doesn't have a legacy BIOS option, only UEFI.

I agree with jarrodl; I run a medium-sized VMware environment and want to test Nutanix and gain some initial experience. If it goes well, we'll switch to Nutanix. But if I can't even manage a normal installation once, Nutanix doesn't make sense for us.

CE != Commercial version. Keep this in mind. Installing Nutanix on the official hardware will be done in 30 minutes. Not per node but per cluster. So you can be up and running within 30 minutes. This installation is using foundation and that is so easy to use. CE is not following this installation principles. This makes proper testing impossible. Before I migrate my approximately 600 VMs, distributed across 4 locations, to a new virtualization platform, I want to test it thoroughly.

Then involve nutanix sales and try to get a poc.
