In simple words, Xi LEAP is to connect On-prem Nutanix Cluster to Nutanix Xi Cloud Services as DR solutions.

Whereas Cloud Connect is to connect the On-prem Nutanix cluster with external Cloud Services like Amazone or Azure.

A few weeks ago i was working implementing a cloud site  with azure cloud connect for backup purposes, and i had the same question about XI leap and cloud connect. Basically XI leap is a so much solid tool but its focused on Disaster recovery, you can use it for backup but you are going to waste money(cause XI leap its much more expensive) and you would lost its main functionality DraaS. With Cloud connect you only pay for storage(Bob or S3 object) wich is more flexible and cheaper.
