Here is a list of the updates announced for NDB at .Next 2026.

1. MongoDB Certified Integration (NDB 2.10)

  • MongoDB Ops Manager Integration: Nutanix introduced a certified integration between NDB and MongoDB Ops Manager. It simplifies lifecycle management and data protection for enterprise MongoDB environments.
  • Automated Sharded Clusters: The integration unifies infrastructure automation, monitoring, and backup workflows, enabling teams to quickly deploy production-ready sharded clusters.
  • Rapid Recovery: Allows for coordinated backup and recovery operations through the NDB Time Machine, shrinking deployment and recovery times from days to minutes.

2. Enhanced Support for SQL Server and MySQL (NDB 2.10)

  • Alongside the MongoDB integration, NDB 2.10 brought enhanced capabilities and scalability improvements specifically targeted at SQL Server and MySQL environments.

3. Databases on Containers (NDB on Kubernetes)

  • NDB on Containers (Early Access): Nutanix announced the ability to run databases on Kubernetes with NDB, integrating tightly with the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP).
  • Kubernetes Operators: Introduction of the DB LCM K8s Operator (responsible for provisioning, patching, upgrading, and scaling databases in containers) and the Time Machine K8s Operator (responsible for data protection and database cloning).
  • Cross-Cluster Replication: Leverages Nutanix Data Services for Kubernetes (NDK) for cross-cluster database disaster recovery and data protection instead of relying solely on native database replication technologies.

4. Expanding to AI and Vector Databases

  • VectorDB-aaS: As part of the Nutanix Agentic AI and neocloud push, NDB highlighted expanded platform capabilities emphasizing support for Vector databases alongside traditional SQL and NoSQL engines, giving developers a cloud-like experience for AI development.

5. Cloud Native NDB

  • Announced as part of the broader "Cloud Native AOS on Bare Metal" ecosystem, setting the foundation for running NDB natively in modern, containerized, and bare-metal environments (NKP Metal).
