Cluster licensing after CPU upgrade

Hi

I recently added a second CPU and expanded the memory in each node of a two-site Nutanix AHV environment running Metro Availability. Each site has its own three-node cluster and Prism Central instance.

The CPU upgrade increased each node from 16 to 32 physical cores, so each cluster went from 48 to 96 cores. The customer purchased additional NCI Pro and Advanced Replication licenses to cover the extra 48 cores per cluster.

After the physical upgrade I followed the manual licensing workflow:

  1. Exported the Cluster Summary File (CSF) from Prism Central

  2. Uploaded it to the Nutanix Support Portal under Licensing → Manage Licenses and selected the new licenses

  3. Downloaded the generated License Summary File (LSF) and uploaded it back to the same Prism Central instance

I repeated the same process for both Prism Central but they still report the clusters as out of compliance, with 96 physical cores detected and 48 licensed on each cluster.

Notice that when checking the portal licensing final summary it shows 96 cores assigned to the correct cluster UUID but Prism Central still shows 48 after applying the LSF.

So what am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Hi @Daniel Martinez unfortunately the system doesn't automatically recognizes hardware changes when licensing.
so when goring trough the licensing steps, reclaim the licenses. This will remove the current core amount licensed and once you go re-apply the licenses the new core account should be showing.

If you continue to have issues afterwards, I would recommend to raise a case for one of to investigate further.

Hi Fernando

Thanks for the answer, I will proceed in that way. So in the step 2 (when uploading the CSF file to the  licensing portal) we should have to reclaim the license and then reaply them instead of upgrading or adding the new ones to the existing. Is that correct?
