The pasword for nutanix user was reset on the prism central system and now I am unable to login even though I am sure the password is correct. It seems it may have become unknown due to the console setting for special characters. In this case how do we recover login access to the node.
I didnt set another sudo or other user for this system either.

Robert,

If you try the wrong password a few times, there is a lockout timer on the account. I've run into this myself. The reboot probably allowed the timer to expire so you could log in again.

It was odd the account became locked out in the first place as the password I used was correct, bar me "fat fingering" the keyboard.
