Nutanix Community Edition fails to install on HPE DX380a Gen11

Hi - We have a requirement to install CE on an HPE DX380a Gen11 server. 

We have downloaded the phoenix-ce2.0-fraser-6.5.2-stable-fnd-5.3.4-x86_64 iso and connected this the the virtual CD drive on the HP server and done a one time boot from CD.

The CE installer starts to run but then always errors at the following screen:-

 

We have tried disabling max power mode changing to OS Control and downloaded the ISO a couple of times also. 

The server has 4 drives which looks to be a CE limit so hopefully we are ok with that. 

This is the first time we have tried to install CE but now not sure what else to try to get this installed

Hi Guy,

Hope you’re well.

I’ve seen that input/output error a few times, though normally associated with dodgy USB boot media but I suppose the same could be said for the ILO.

Do you have the ability to get a USB boot disk plugged into the server locally to rule out the ILO?

And back ontopic. @Guy Bannister as Kim already mentioned, try to install ce from a usb stick. We’ve seen this the behavior multiple times when installing from ilo/ipmi/idrac/etc.

Thanks - The USB method has allowed the initial installation to proceed and complete. However I cannot access the management interface from a jumphost on same vlan. I can ping the Hypervisor IP as configured in the screenshot below (so networking good) but I cannot ping the CVM address or access the CVM address on port 9440. My hunch is that after the initial install from USB that maybe after the prompted reboot that the setup script hasn’t run to create CVM and cluster etc..

Anyone seen this or know if any post install script can be run manually from the Hypervisor console login using root?

Better is to uncheck the “create one-node cluster” and do it afterwards when installer is done. 
 

can you look of the cvm is running from the hypervisor?

run: virsh list —all

Hi - Thanks for the advice.

I ran through the install again and de-selected the create one node cluster option. 

However when I reboot the “AHV firstboot script” fails to run and the CVM is “shut off”. 

Not sure if anyone has seen this or has suggestions on what to try next?
