Try to make a bootable usb stick via rufus in windows and boot from that usb stick. 

Nope, Used rufus to write the USB stick from a windows VM on my mac. I also used an Ubuntu USB to wipe the windows server installation that was on the USB before as the installation medium was unhappy with a preexisting OS

Looks like it cannot detect disks. 

Is this before or after the wizard? 

Sorry about the missing characters, I took a photo and used OCR ro copy text and the monitor I’m using has the slightest bit of overscan

But this is after the wizard, or at least after it starts. I was able to get to the grey seen and select the installation target, as well as setting IPs

In that case I would suggest to try another USB stick.

Can you give us a screenshot of the disk selection screen?  You need at least 3 drives for installation purposes.

This is a little puzzling as it almost seems like it can’t re-identify the correct disk to use for the CVM.   (The CVM and Hypervisor are actually imaged in parallel, so the logs get a little intermingled).  What PERC adapter is in this server?   

Also to make your life a little easier as we debug this, if you hit ctrl+c after the installer comes up, you can start SSH with “systemctl start sshd” and then use “ip addr” to identify the IP address of the install host.  THen just ssh into it user username: root, password: nutanix/4u and start the installer from the SSH session with ‘./ce_installer && screen -r’.  That way you can copy paste messages.

I’m curious about the output of the /root/phoenix/install_vm.log and the other installer logs.   They would be a good place to start to see why it’s not relocating the CVM drive
 

I’m currently attempting to ssh in. I can ping, and I get the password prompt for ssh, but I keep getting errors saying it’s the wrong password

edit:fixed it by changing it with passwd!

Got ssh’d in, and I there’s no installer log in the location you mentioned

Make sure you’re logging in as the root user, password is nutanix/4u.

Also I just noticed, the Host and CVM must be in the same network, so you will want to make sure you update your IP addresses accordingly.  It isn’t causing this problem, but it will after it gets past where you are hung up.

In /tmp, there should be two more files, svm_rescue.out and svm_rescue.err.   You can also share the /tmp/install_vm.out, although that’s just the hypervisor side.  If you want to email  them to me:  kurt.telep@nutanix.com if it makes it easier.

We’ve released an updated version of CE (CE2.1) I recommend grabbing it and attempting the install with that first and see if you run into the same challenge.

Also, be sure to completely disable virtual floppy and virtual CD/DVD ROM in the iDRAC configuration.

In my case i successfully provisioned Nutanix CE 2.1 single node cluster

with 4 x 2TB HDD for data drives, 1TB SSB for CVM and 32GB USB 3.1 external drive for hypervisor.

I had attached Nutanix CE 2.1 ISO image to Virtual CD/DVD/ISO ROM from iDRAC and booted the server without any issues i had successfully done.
