Hi, Hope everyone are ok,

I have a quick question, is possible to install AHV in 3 nodes that have only 2 SSDs

I know that 3 disks are need it, but i tried to use USB to install “H” and “C” and “D” in the other ones.

There is some configuration or something to bypass and install in a USB “H”, because i can´t add a third disk in each node,

Right now im using it in a nested VM ESXi solution, but is not the same experience…

Thanks in advance,

Hi @juan_izzo

Check AHCI on Bios

I have built a community lab using 4 x Dell OptiPlex 3060 systems with the following configuration:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7
  • Memory: 32 GB RAM
  • USB Drive (H:): 64 GB
  • SSD (C:): 512 GB
  • SATA Drive (D:): 2 TB

This setup has been working well for my lab environment, and I have not encountered any major issues so far.

Thanks

Hi, @juan_izzo

If I understand your situation correctly, you are currently running Nutanix in a nested ESXi environment, but you want to move to a physical 3-node setup.

If you are staying with the nested ESXi setup, you don’t need to add a physical disk. You can simply add another virtual disk to each Nutanix VM and present three virtual disks to each node.

However, if your goal is to run Nutanix directly on the physical nodes, and each node only has two SSDs with no possibility of adding a third one, then I understand why you are considering using a USB drive as the third disk.

I haven’t tested using USB storage for this purpose myself yet, so I can’t confirm whether it can be used as a valid disk for the Nutanix installation. I’m actually interested in this scenario as well, so I may test it.

Yes that is possible. Make sure you have a new usb stick for AHV (not a small one) and install in on it.
