Nutanix cannot scale a GPU server with storage alone? | Nutanix Community

Hi,

I am checking out Nutanix as a hypervisor. I understand however from our technical supplier that Nutanix will not be able to scale a GPU server using a storage server. Namely, I have a GPU server with some limited storage, which I would like to extend with a storage server(s). These would then be linked through a dedicated switch to the GPU server.

He tells me that Nutanix is not good for that, and that we would have to go with VMWare. I understand that this has to do with hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI). However, I cannot imagine that Nutanix does not have a solution for such use-case.

My question therefore is: can a GPU server be extended with a storage server using Nutanix?

Thanks!

I dont get the question. But within Nutanix we can have nodes in a cluster with GPU in it. So it is not a problem to have gpu enabled servers.

But you cannot just install Nutanix on servers that are already available. Nutanix can only installed on hardware which is on the HCL.

Thanks for that. I am no expert at all in this, hence the question.

Better phrased: if we extend the server park with dedicated storage-only nodes that do not contribute compute resources within the Nutanix environment, are we then more limited in Nutanix than we would be in VMWare wrt the type of hardware we can use.

I understand that there are Storage Nodes in Nutanix and iSCSI can be used to integrate external storage.

As I said, I have difficulty believing that this would be a real concern. I understand that this is not the case then, and that we can extend without much trouble.
