We're currently running low on available storage in our Nutanix environment, and I’d like to ask for your advice on how we can free up space effectively. If there are recommended steps or best practices we should follow, I’d really appreciate your guidance

@Boss-G I would recommend contacting Nutanix support for resolution. Since you are new to the environment.

Wow in red. You should have been acted when the widget was orange ;)

  1. Remove old snaphosts (prism element) and recovery points (prism central)
  2. Look at storage containers settings, is compression turned on where needed?
  3. Remove images not being used anymore
  4. Remove templates not being used anymore
  5. etc etc

Hi @JeroenTielen

I'm new to Nutanix and just started a new job, so I'm still learning. Is there an article or resource that can help me better understand what you mentioned? I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

As per your screenshot, click on that sun icon and share the details, it will show us, where are usage of your storage.if you see a huge size under snapshots, if you have data protection enabled, (go to menu>data protection), then from bottom, you will be able to list all local/remote snapshots, which you can remove old ones. If you have PC , there could be a chance that it is enabled there (it will not show under local) since you are new in there, check if you have any powered off VMs, and if they can be deleted,

I would recommend taking a backup of them before you delete them, in case your want them back, one of the key point which @JeroenTielen  mentioned is to ensure compression is enabled on your storages, from menu go to storage>table, from storage container, make sure under compression all are on (this is for generic VMs workload) which should not impact your workload and saves some space.

What is the version of your AOS?do you have a valid license and support ?if you do involve support, they will help you with clean up. Please check and get back to us if required.
