2 all-SSD + 5 SSD+NVMe nodes in RF3 cluster - recommended?

Hi team,

We have a 5 node SSD+NVMe cluster with RF3 and are considering adding 2 all-SSD nodes to that cluster.

Are there any drawbacks/risks/restrictions to having only 2 nodes of all-SSD type in this RF3 cluster?

SSD+NVMe nodes:  G7, 6256 CPU, 1TB RAM, 4x1,92TB SSD, 4x3,84TB NVMe

All-SSD nodes: G6, 6128 CPU, 768GB RAM, , 6x3,84TB SSD

Hi 

Nutanix supports mixing nodes that contain NVMe drives in the same cluster with all-SSD nodes that do not contain NVMe drives.

We referred to this doc before, however it only mentions the minimum required number for Hybrid-AF environments:

“You can mix all-SSD nodes and hybrid SSD/HDD nodes in the same cluster only under the following conditions:

  • Mixed all-flash/hybrid clusters must have a minimum of two all-SSD nodes.
  • The minimum number of each node type (all-SSD/hybrid) must be equal to the cluster redundancy factor. For example, clusters with a redundancy factor of 2 must have a minimum of two hybrid and two all-SSD nodes.”

It is not completely clear if it applies to our case with 2 SSD-only+5 SSD+NVMe nodes

Yes, Condition remains same , You will have to meet the RF for both NVMe and SSD nodes , Hybrid model approach apply to NVMe.
