The Certification Chronicles: Drew Plaster, Senior System Administrator
Userlevel 6

We recently caught up with Drew Plaster, Senior System Administrator, to hear about his training and certification experience with Nutanix University. Check out his full interview below and watch the video to learn how taking training and getting certified has benefitted his career and helped expand his professional network.

Tell us about your training and certification experience through Nutanix University

I've had the opportunity to have some really good formal training in-person. Before Covid, I did training for my Nutanix Certified Associate (NCA) in-person in Seattle at the Nutanix headquarters. Then I got the opportunity to do training for my Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP) also in-person. Then just recently, in the last six months I got my Nutanix Certified Master (NCM).

Personally, I like in-person training a lot better than hybrid training. One of the biggest advantages for me of in-person training was the collaboration with the other clients in the class. I got to meet like-minded individuals that can add to my network. I can reach out to these guys now if I'm having a problem, they'll reach out to me if they're having a problem.

How has getting certified benefitted your career?

It has certainly increased the breadth and depth of my skill set, relative to Nutanix and hyperconverged Infrastructure. It helps me more efficiently manage and optimize the Nutanix environment and the contacts that I've made have really helped increase my personal network. Let's say phone-a-friend network for help and support and collaboration.

Why do you think it’s important to get training and become certified?

I think it helps you become more proficient and efficient in your own career and also helps your organization. It shows that you have a dedication to adding knowledge and skills that are relative to your field, which can also help differentiate yourself from others in your field that may not be certified. I think it really shows that you've got a dedication to enhancing your profession and your skill set.
