Did you know that as of July 31, 2025, Omnissa Horizon 8 is officially supported on the Nutanix AHV hypervisor? That’s right — Horizon just swiped right on Nutanix, and it’s not just a summer fling. We’re talking Limited General Availability (LGA), with full GA coming later this fall (pumpkin spice season, naturally).

Why This Matters

This integration is a major milestone for customers looking to break the bundle with vSphere and explore other hypervisors.

Horizon 8 on AHV delivers:

  • Freedom of Choice: Deploy Horizon on-premises or in hybrid cloud environments like Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) solution on Azure and AWS.
  • Operational Simplicity: Manage your entire EUC stack through the Prism Central console, Nutanix’s centralized control plane.
  • Cost Optimization: Eliminate third-party hypervisor licensing costs by running Horizon directly on AHV, Nutanix’s native hypervisor.
  • Enterprise Readiness: Full support for vGPU, App Volumes, and vTPM promotes  performance, scalability, and security. Think BitLocker encryption.
  • Future-Proofing: Built-in support for hybrid deployments, disaster recovery, and AI-enhanced VDI use cases.
  • This isn’t just about infrastructure — it’s about giving IT teams the flexibility and control they need to support a distributed, cloud-smart workforce.

Cloud-Nauseam No More

We’ve all been there. You’re trying to plan your EUC strategy and all you hear is “cloud, cloud, cloud.” It’s like the tech version of “Are we there yet?”

But here’s the twist: Horizon on Nutanix gives you freedom of choice. Run your virtual desktops on-prem or in the cloud (hello, NC2). It’s like choosing your own adventure, but with fewer dragons and more GPUs.

Simplicity Meets Power

With Prism Central, managing your Horizon deployment is like driving a luxury car with self-parking. You get unified control, streamlined operations, and the kind of visibility that makes IT admins weep tears of joy.

Who Should Care?

If you’re:

  • A Horizon customer looking to escape vSphere
  • A VDI user exploring new horizons (pun intended)
  • A greenfield VDI dreamer
  • An AI-powered workstation wizard
  • Or just someone who likes their infrastructure modern and their deployments hybrid

Then yes, this news is for you.

Availability Snapshot

Starting July 31, qualified customers with Nutanix HCI, AHV 10.0.x, and Prism Central 2024.3+ can deploy Horizon 8. Supported features include Windows 10/11, App Volumes, vGPU, and NC2 on Azure/AWS.

What’s Next?

A full GA release is coming in November, with even more features to follow. In the meantime, Nutanix and Omnissa are working hand-in-hand to make hybrid EUC not just possible — but powerful.

A Partnership Built for the Future

This collaboration between Nutanix and Omnissa reflects a shared commitment to flexibility, simplicity, and customer choice. As Thomas Cornely, SVP of Product Management at Nutanix, put it:

“Together with Omnissa, we’re making it easier for our joint customers to simplify end-user computing and support hybrid work across any environment delivered on Nutanix Cloud Platform with the security and control they require.”

So go ahead. Re-platform. Reimagine. Rejoice.

And if you’re still wondering whether Horizon on AHV is right for you, just remember: the future of EUC isn’t cloudy — it’s clear, flexible, and running on Nutanix.
