A few years ago, and a few jobs removed from my current position at Nutanix, I recall visiting with a customer – a small police department, which used the company’s software for case management and evidence tracking. One comment really stands in my memory. When I asked what they did for Disaster Recovery, their IT consultant replied – “Oh, I have the backup disks from last week in the trunk of my car.”
While this statement stuck in my mind, in reality it is not that uncommon, especially in smaller organizations. The challenge these organizations face is the cost - both in monetary terms and in complexity - of having a proper Continuity of Operations (COOP) plan. These plans are frequently left to the end, after all the operational architectures are completed, and sometimes forgotten until some event exposes the oversight.
In today’s Cloud era, implementing proper Disaster Recovery (DR) has never been more practical. This is great news for smaller government and educational intuitions where Business Continuity and DR are regulatory requirements.
Xi Leap, one of the Nutanix Xi Cloud service offerings, offers a fully integrated DR-to-cloud solution that rapidly and intelligently protects the applications and data in your Nutanix environment without the need to purchase and maintain a separate infrastructure stack. By utilizing the same platform on-premises and in the recovery site, Xi Leap fully eliminates the need for complex translation of constructs, policies and data models across environments.
Xi Leap leverages the same Nutanix management plane – Prism to achieve one-click reliable execution of failover and failback processes sans any manual intervention.
Xi Leap offers non-disruptive testing, enabling organizations to routinely examine their DR readiness and achieve regulatory compliance.
Xi Leap features a comprehensive security suite that provides full isolation and protection of customer workloads against attacks and theft.
Xi Leap is already gaining traction with Nutanix Government and Education customers. One of our early adopters - Gary Mattei, Director of Technology at Avon Grove School District comments:
“I was surprised at the speed with which we could do things. Under our old system, protecting Virtual Machines (VMs) might take the better part of a day for setup and configuration. With Nutanix, the process was done in ten minutes.”
