Hi

I have a customer with an old Nutanix AHV Cluster:

  • Prism Central: pc.2023.4.0.2
  • AOS: 6.5.6.6
  • AHV: el7.nutanix.20220304.511

We wil deploy a new Nutanix AHV Cluster:

  • Prism Central: 7.5.0.6
  • AOS: 7.5.0.6
  • AHV: 11.0.0.2

But the problem here is Veeam compatibility between enviroments.

Right now the customer has two Veeam 12 apliances, the initial proposal was to eliminate one of them and use a single Veeam appliance with Veeam13.

However when I was checking the compatibility matrix I can see the following info:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/userguide/ahv_system_requirements.html?ver=13

https://portal.nutanix.com/page/compatibility-interoperability-matrix/software?partnerName=Veeam&solutionType=Data%20Protection&componentVersion=all&hypervisor=AHV&validationType=all

As far as I understand from the previous links if you want to use Veeam 13 you need at least:

  • Prism Central → pc.2022.6 or above
  • AOS → 6.5.6.6 or above
  • AHV → 10.3.1.1 or above

So checking the inventory from both clusters I see this:

OLD NUTANIX CLUSTER

  • Prism Central: pc.2023.4.0.2  ← ok
  • AOS: 6.5.6.6 ← NO ok
  • AHV: el7.nutanix.20220304.511 ← NO ok

NEW NUTANIX CLUSTER

  • Prism Central: 7.5.0.6 ← ok
  • AOS: 7.5.0.6 ← ok
  • AHV: 11.0.0.2 ← ok

Is that correct or I am missing something?

Thanks

Hi,
I have a similar question. We’re running Veeam 12.3.2 and need to add the new AHV cluster listed below. Do we need to upgrade Veeam to version 13 for this?

NEW NUTANIX CLUSTER

  • Prism Central: 7.5.0.6
  • AOS: 7.5.0.6
  • AHV: 11.0.0.2

No — you should not add a Nutanix 7.5.0.6 (AOS/AHV) cluster to Veeam 12.3.2.
You do not need Veeam 13 yet, but Veeam 12.3.x currently has compatibility issues with AOS 7.5 that must be fixed first.

At this time, AOS 7.5 is not fully supported without a patch or workaround.

Hi @Daniel Martinez

Yes, your interpretation is largely correct. The main blocking component is AHV on the old cluster, not AOS.

For Veeam Backup & Replication v13 with Nutanix AHV, the minimum supported versions are:

Prism Central: pc.2022.6 or later
AOS: 6.5.6.x or later
AHV: 10.3.1.1 or later

In your case, the old cluster AHV build (el7.nutanix.20220304.511) is below the required AHV version, so it would not be supported by Veeam v13.

Thanks for the answer!

So in that case I will recommend the customer to upgrade the old Nutnaix cluster to a higher version to archive the Veeam13 compatibility.

In case it’s not possible he will have to keep at least one veeam server on v12 for the old Nutanix cluster backups and upgrade the second Veeam to v13 for the new Nutanix cluster.
