Dears,

we are planning to expand a cluster consists of 3 Nodes, the new node supposed to come with DiscoveryOS the Existing AHV and CVM are using tagged VLAN, could you please advice if using expand option from the prism element will be able to discover the new node and re-image it ? should any preparation be done on the node before the expanding

AOS version is 6.5.4, foundation is 5.4, IPV6 is enabled on the switch.

from Prism webUI guide i can see

“If the Controller VMs in the cluster reside in a VLAN configured network, the discovery process still finds any factory-prepared nodes regardless of their current VLAN status (configured or not configured).” → in our case it’s coming with DiscoveryOS.

from the same document it mention that

“ Discovered blocks are blocks with one or more unassigned factory-prepared nodes (hypervisor and Controller VM installed) residing on the same subnet as the cluster. Discovery requires that IPv6 multicast packets are allowed through the physical switch. If you see a failure message, review the requirements.

It should be discoverable IF IPv6 multicast is turned on in your physical switching. If IPv6 multicast is turned off the Discovery will fail and manual node setup and then expansion in PE.

Thank You for your reply

Thank you for your reply, IPV6 Is enabled but after discovery will it tag the CVM and AHV for new node  with the Same VLAN in the existing cluster (we are not using the Native VLAN)

I believe the VLAN tagging will apply the same as the existing nodes in that cluster. A way to test this before expansion would be use the ‘Prepare Now and Expand Later’ option when in Expand Cluster.

so this option will image the node and configure its network, consider it  didn’t add the VLAN after Appling this work flow the node now should have AHV and AOS can i login to AHV and use network configuratool tool to assign the VLAN “./network_configuration”
