Recycle bin stat in nutanix v5

Hello,

How can I check the recycle bin in Nutanix v5?

I’m facing a space issue with the default container. When I delete a VM, the available space in the container doesn’t seem to change.

Regarding the snapshot files, I have snapshots that I can’t delete located in the path /default-container-/.snapshot.

I dont know what you mean with “v5” I hope is it not AOS 5.20 ;)

To purge and/or check  the recycle bin in prism element: Home Dashboard → Storage Summary → View Details → Purge Recycle Bin.

Then you also have so wait some curator scan. They will run every hour (partial) and every 6 hours (full).

If you wanna know what is in the recycle bin: recycle_bin -operation view

If you want to delete snapshots: https://www.jeroentielen.nl/cleanup-nutanix-snapshots-after-amount-of-days/

If you want to check for orphaned snapshots: https://www.jeroentielen.nl/delete-vm-and-keep-snapshots/

If nothing helps, involve Nutanix support ;)

Hello @JeroenTielen ,

Thank you for your response. Regarding "V5," it refers to the Nutanix AOS version 5.15.2 LTS. I have already checked the option under Home Dashboard → Storage Summary → View Details → Purge Recycle Bin, but it is not available in this version. Is it possible to run the Purge Recycle Bin command via CMD?

Thank you!

For the snapshot, I checked the list, but none of them are present. However, the space in Nutanix is still occupied. I also verified the snapshots in the container using SSH on port 2222.

I found quite a few snapshots with large sizes. Do you have any information about these snapshots? And can I delete them?

Recycle bin will purge automatically after 24 hours.

I hope you have prism central running then you can create this view: https://www.jeroentielen.nl/get-snapshot-sizes-in-prism-central/

These snapshot can also be from data protection or files. Check the snapshots over there. Dont delete them straight from the scp browser.

Hello,

No, I don't have Prism Central. I checked the data protection snapshots but couldn't find any.

Can it be that you have some backup running which is creating the snapshots?

Yes, I have Veeam, and all backups complete successfully.

There you go. Those snapshots are third party snapshots created by Veeam. If you want to remove them, remove the snapshots in Veeam.

I already checked for snapshots in Veeam, but there are none.
