What is better, 4x960GB SSDs per node or 2x1.9TB SSDs?We currently have 2x960GB SSDs and need to double the capacity. Cost aside, any benefits of one configuration over another?

I guess potential benefits the way I see them:

  1. in favor of having 2x1.92TB - if we decide to double the capacity again in the near future, it is much easier to add another 2x1.92TB vs replacing 4x960GB drives
  2. in favor of having 4x960GB drives:
    1. Easier to upgrade now - just add two drives
    2. Faster? - this is, I guess, my main question. Would this configuration be faster?

Thank you!

Hi IgorBinder,

Regarding the speed, in theory 4 SSD per node can be faster, but in most situations you will not notice the difference. You will see the difference if the current performance with 2 SSDs is not good enough and the disks are already working on the edge of their potential, but if the overall load on the cluster is not heavy, it will be very similar.

Sergei, thank you for the reply!

If we decide to replace our 2x960GB SSDs per node to 2x1.92TB ones, what would be the procedure?

Thank you!

Simply select 1 disk in Prism, click remove, wait for the removal process to complete, then replace the disk physically, select it in Prism, click the “repartition and add” button. Then go for other disks the same way 1 at a time. Always wait for the removal process to complete, it is important.
