When I try to run the Nutanix foundation applet, Java tells me that the file does not meet high or very high security requirements and that it is missing a certificate. I can’t add it to the site exception list because the file: protocol is not secure. Some guidance would be helpful.

I am running the offline version of the applet. Does Nutanix provide a Java certification for this app?

Hey Bob,

We don’t provide a certificate but there is a process to allow the applications to run.

This article is available on the portal: The Offline Foundation Applet Fails to Launch

Here is the pertinent process. To resolve this issue, do the following:

  • Open Java Control Panel.
  • Click the Security tab.
  • Click Edit Site List to add an exception.
  • Enter the path where the offline Java applet for Foundation is stored and click OK.

    For example, enter the following:

    file:///C:/Users/username/Downloads/foundation/FoundationApplet-offline/

Ensure that you have the ending slash "/"

  • Launch the Foundation applet and the Foundation launcher should open successfully.

I’ve been told that they way to do node discovery and imaging is through the Foundation for Windows application. Is that an appropriate alternative to using the Java applet?

You can use any of the foundation processes.

If the nodes are not part of a cluster and running a CVM I like to use the <ip address>:8000 interface to foundation directly from the node. This is basically what the Java applet does when it discovers the nodes.

I think you guys should consider revising the installation guide to include options other than the Java Applet since, at least for me, it isn’t working.

I will pass that on.
