Hello,I have a hybrid cluster (3 nodes) with 2x1,9TB SSDs and 10x4TB NL-SAS drives. Is it possible to replace all the disk in the cluster to make it all-flash? What would be the procedure? Thanks!!
Hi, Foundation version 3.6-74ea4a6f download, Give me the link. (Standalone Foundation VM image for importing into VirtualBox or ESXi) I am going to test with an old version Foundation(3.6-74ea4a6f). I don't have this version. Do you have a download link? Thank you.
Can someone confirm the drive placement for SSD and the SATA drives in our Dell XC740xd servers? On one cluster of servers, there are four SSD drives in bays 0-3 and in the other two clusters the SSDs are in the last four bays. I have only seen the SSD drives in the first four drive bays.
Hi I followed the steps in page to upgrade NCC. I can upgrade NCC by a single installer file (ncc_installer_filename.sh) successfully. But I cannot upgrade NCC by a compressed tar file (ncc_installer_filename.tar.gz). After extract the installation package, I type command to run the install script as below. It showed “Installation of ncc failed on node xx.xx.xx.xx” . I tired to run the script on each cluster, they generated the same error. How to troubleshoot the issue?
is there any storage motion or container motion if i using ahv? and if not, how we move vm data from one container to another container?
Hi All, is anyone can tell me if AMD processors are supported on Nutanix CE i want to get a server with AMD processors and want to install Nutanix CE
If you are anything like me then you prefer to figure out things by yourself instead of asking for assistance. While this is arguably the most efficient method of achieving a positive outcome, knowing where to find the right information as well as knowing that it exists is crucial. Also, networking is complicated. Being fundamental, a mistake often makes a profound impact on the environment. How to create a virtual bridge? How to use manage_ovs command? How to change VLAN on VM NIC? How to add or remove VLAN on CVM and AHV host? How to configure LACP? How to isolate 1G NICs from the rest of the NICs? The answers to the above and more as well as useful links – all can be found in KB-2090 AHV | Host and Guest Networking Care to read more? Check these: .NEXT AHV Networking | Configuring Load Balancing .NEXT AHV Networking | Enable, Disable and Verify LACP AHV Networking
Only applies to AOS 5.15 and earlier versionsShould you wish to add NIC cards to your nodes there are several steps to follow to ensure that the process is successful. Verify that NIC card model is compatible with the hardware. In case of an NX platform the best way would be to contact Nutanix account team. Look for the documentation describing the process. Nutanix portal has a Hardware replacement section for instructions on all hardware component replacements for all NX platforms. Once the card is automatically detected the bond and uplinks configuration must be updated using manage_ovs command from CVM. Hi A remote site on AWS has been configured earlier. The time sync drifted too far but that has been fixed. The remote site in Data Protection has this alert "Remote site connectivity not normal." It is an AWS instance. The remote CVM IP address is 10.162.10.115. The host ipaddress is unknown, the firewall rules are fully open and replication seems to be occuring. There is a site to site VPN specificaly for this instance It looks as though the aWS remote site was never configured with the local cluster as a remote site which is what most of the webinars and documentation suggest. The IP address will not open a web page on http or https, the only communication available to the AWS node is SSH. How does the configurationof the remote site get completed or how do I get rid of this alert ?? Prisim: 5.6.1 NCC Version: 3.5.2 LCM Version: 1.4.2381 Nutanix 20170830.124 (in cluster, standard AWS instance) Thanks
hi, my client want to migrate all their sles 12 vm's from AHV to their ESXi farm (SAP Hana), currently i'm using the vmware converter but not success, got error cannot query live Linux machine.. i did try this --> https://acropolis.ninja/export-a-vm-from-nutanix-ahv-to-vmware-esxi/ but process stuck in qemu-img convert, and my cvm will give an error "CVM Services Restarting Frequently".. any suggestion to make more easier? cheers, paLee

Out Database team has been using ERA to deploy lab and test VMs. I noticed they are reporting ridiculous usage. Some of the machines report used more than half the total cluster storage and 3 times allocated. Any ideas?
Life-cycle Manager has made the life of every Nutanix Admin easy by providing a 1-click approach to upgrade the firmware and in the latest version, the hypervisor seamlessly. Let’s consider a scenario, where you went ahead with an LCM upgrade but noticed it failing as some pre-checks failed. What are these pre-checks? Before any upgrade, LCM runs a series of pre-checks to confirm the cluster stability and if all the prerequisites are fulfilled before proceeding with the upgrade. Do we have a document listing all the pre-checks and their resolution? The following document lists all the pre-check, their description and resolution. This might come in handy if we are trying to troubleshoot as to why the LCM pre-checks have failed. KB-4584 Want to know more about Life Cycle Manager and its features? Hi everyone, I m new to Nutanix and have just deployed my first cluster. I did all the updates I could find in Upgrade Software Settings. It brought the nodes up to 5.11.2.1 . I tried to run the checks again and it shows no available versions. I saw the notice for the release of 5.16 so I downloaded the manual update binary file and meta file. When I try to update it says unsupported. Edit: NOT SUPPORTED Current version was released after the Target version was released. Upgrading to Target Release version is not supported in this case. I check the support upgrade path wizard in My Nutanix and it says the 5.11.2.1 is newer then the 5.16 yet they were released the same day!? The Upgrade path shows that if I had the 5.11.2 I could update to 5.16 but not 5.11.2.1 ?? Will Nutanix have an update path for this? or am I stuck for a while? thanks everyone. Scott
Hello, first time to use IPMI. Need to mount ISOt to re-install ESXi. So I’m trying to launch Direct Console from IPMI (note that I just reinstalled Java). but still not launching. Any idea? Nutanix Support wasn’t helpful.
There can be legitimate cases where access to external storage, such as massive tape libraries, massive disk archives is needed to some, but not all VMs running in a Nutanix cluster. These VMs would be ideally under the AHV hypervisor, but is ESXi is an acceptable alternative. These external storage systems would likely support 10GbE iSCSI (and faster) and/or 8 gbit fibre channel or faster. I understand that supporting such external access would make the VM “special” and would restrict VM mobility to other specific nodes that were configured for similar external access. The mobility issues are a later discussion, if external storage access is possible. If the external storage was a NAS device, running NFS and/or SMB, I believe it would be straigntforward … just define the external IP address in the VM, and access the data from the VM. The same technique could be used for external iSCSI devices, for Ethernet iSCSi. In many cases, if the external storage needed very high performance
I have an opportunity to acquire some retired Nutanix memory. The retired memory is NX-1065-G5 nodes and our Cluster is NX-6035-G5. From what I have been able to trace they appear to use the same memory modules. Can anyone confirm this?
Let’s say you want to add a node to the cluster, now, the AOS version in the new node to be added should be the same for quick expansion. To do so, you need to use a phoenix image bundled with AOS or in some cases, AOS + AHV bundled image to perform imaging in one go. Instead of creating a new case with support and save your time too, the fastest way would be to create one on your own. There are 2 ways to do so:- 1. Creating a Phoenix ISO via CVM 2. Creating an ISO by Using a Foundation VM (if option 1 cannot be performed) To know in detail regarding how to go about the above-mentioned ways, take a look at KB-3523.
Hello, after new install single-node cluster, i dont change pass for root user. # passwd root bash: passwd: command not found what am I doing wrong?
The business is growing, and this means more users, more virtual desktops, and you’re likely going to need more RAM. You could add a node or two, but what if rack space isn’t readily available? The existing nodes may still have room to grow. How do we add memory to nodes in a Nutanix cluster? The process for upgrading memory is covered in this KB: HW: Upgrading Physical Memory You should understand the restrictions and have a plan before purchasing DIMMs. If you need to review supported memory configurations, such as what DIMM capacities are supported and which slots to fill, check the NX Series Hardware Administration Guide for details. There are restrictions on mixing memory in the same node. You can’t just add any DIMM that fits into an existing node, but if each node has some slots available there are options to move forward. You could purchase new DIMMs to populate one node and complete this replacement first, and then use the removed DIMMs to add memory capacity to other nodes i
Hi,I had a problem with the NTP server configured on the Nutanix cluster, unintentionally changed the date to 09012020 instead of 01092020, the point is that after solving that problem, now the cluster reports to me Critical alerts dated September 1, 2020. The date of the NTP is already corrected, but Web Console shows some critical alerts, but those alerts are not shown with ncli, but are shown with Alert tool. I have try to aknowledge and resolved them, but they are NOT eliminated from alert_list.Does anyone know what I can do so that the web console no longer shows them?
I am reimaging my lab cluster after we had some serious problems with a conversion to AHV and rollback to ESXi. 2 of my 3 nodes reimaged fine, once I put a /firstboot directory in to the existing ESXi hosts. My 3rd node is losing track of where the firstboot directory would be. It happens to the best of us. We are human beings and we make mistakes. Sometimes it means that we forget or lose root passwords to one or more of our AHV hosts. There are two ways out of that situation. Log into the AHV host from CVM using the host's local IP address. Make sure that you are logging into the CVM of the problematic host. Change root password. Re-image the AHV host. The Nutanix Support portal includes a compatibility matrix available from the Compatibility Matrix link. You can filter and display compatibility by Nutanix NX model, AOS release, hypervisor, and feature (platform/cluster intermixing). Nutanix recommends that you consult the matrix before installing or upgrading software on your cluster. Do you want to know if you can mix different types of CPUs, memory, disks or hypervisors in your Nutanix environment? There are instances where it is necessary to reseat a node for troubleshooting purposes. So what exactly is node reseat? Node reseat is a process in which we stop all the services in the node, put the CVM and Hypervisor in maintenance mode and then physically detach the node from the block and re-seat it. A node re-seat is sometimes required in troubleshooting related to the power supply as during re-seat of the node the voltage drops to zero. So do we have a step by step guide explaining the process of the reseat of a node with video tutorials on how to physically remove a node? Of course, we do Go through the knowledge base article to understand the process of node reseat. KB-3182 Reseating a Node in a Cluster Need some guidance or still confused?
