Node Factory Reset

Hi,         I am doing 4 node AHV cluster decomission. I did all the steps and finally gave cluster destroy and ensure it was destroyed completely. I want to do factory reset of all the nodes where the hypervisor /cvm configurations like hostname, IP etc will we wiped out. Let me know the procedure on this. Thanks.

Easy way to put Vmware ESXi host into maintenance mode.

I know there’s another topic like this but, it is 3 years old. Is there an easy way to put a single ESX host into maintenance mode?Not to compare products but with Cisco Hyperflex, you right-click on the host and there’s a “Hyperflex maintenance mode” option.  This does what needs to be done to the CV without having to SSH into anything.I was just wondering if the process has improved in 3 years.

Credential Guard

Can Credential Guard be enabled via GPO for 2016 servers running in AHV? Or is this something that only applies to servers running on a HyperV host?

Nutanix with Nexus Switch

Dear Expert, My Nutanix environment as per below: 4block of Nutanix ( 8 Node ) connect to Nexus Access Switch with 10G SPF cable. Hypervisor: VMware 5.5 Issue: from vCenter we detect the host keep disconnected randomly. and vCenter become HANG Workaround: Ping continuously on Host. Result No packet drop can you please advise what need to do Regards, Hamballi

KVM VM on AHV?

Hi, AHV is based on KVM, but I can't find any documentation that states that you actuelly can run/move KVM VMs on AHV. Can anyone confirm this? We have a customer who wishes to move their KVM VMs to our AHV environment. :) So we want to confirm that it is possible. Best regards Peter

How to schedule a VM power state with AHV

I will looking to migrate from VMware to AHV in the next few weeks. As I understand it, it is not possible to schedule the state of a VM say for Shutdown or Power On, as you can do in VMware. Is there a workaround and is this on the roadmap?

Windows Server Missing vDisks

I have been trying to create a Windows Server VM. whenever I create the VM I can't see a drive where I can install the windows server. has anyone else experienced this?

2012 VMs intermittently locking up resolved

I've had an intermittant problem with some 2012 VMs I had migrated that have been locking up after a random time, usually going to 100% CPU and all IO stops. VM Console is unresponsive and network not reachable, reset is only solution to bring back online. It would then run again for a number of minutes, hours, even a day or more only to do same thing again at a random time through day or night, so was no logical patten to it. I endup tracking it down to a timezone config issue, when rebooting the VMs in question the timezone would set their clock to the hypervisior host time, which was in a different timezone (default TZ nodes were shipped with) to the the host VM TZ. I had a similar problem in the past, although not with the host lockups, where a number of hosts would lose time sync and be out by the TZ difference between host and VM on our Citrix XenServer Cluster hypervisor host. Because our VM are on an AD domain they will be out of NTP adjustment range becasue time differen

Network and storage segregation

Hi all, My present client is making me working on a design implying to deploy a XAAS plateform with a lot of security inside (NSX is on the cook list). In our team, i was declared as the nutanix man. My mission is to determine the best way to isolate storage from diffrent workload : [list] [*]we'll have an integration zone, a developpement and a production zone as PAAS. [*]Some node will executed heavy VDI (K2 graphic cards will achieve this), [*]Then we'll have a IAAS with vcloud SP for the sandbox zone).[/list]So we can imagine some sort of multicluster with 3 cluster dedicated to 3 zones : 3D VDI zone / SANDBOX IAAS zone / and PAAS zone. It implies at least 9 nodes which is a bit too much for starting plateform. [b]My question is[/b], can I make a 6 node cluster for nutanix / storage point, with 3 volumes pools on all 6 node ? and more than that what will it implies in terms of storage performance, data protection, data seggregation (security team will challenge me heavily on

Hello, under storage details I have had a Snapshot listed using 1.36TiB for a few weeks now and I’m not able to locate where it is. Is there any commands that can help me find it?  acli snapshot.list does not list any

Problem with SvMotion on vSphere 5.5u2

Hi, On a new install (nx6020) ; during a Storage vMotion, the ESXi CPU increases up to +80% of the total physical CPU ...The Storage vMotion is very long ... A vMotion is ok, no problem, very fast. Any idea ? Info : - Cluster version v4.1.2.1 - RAM CVMs : 32GB I think that there is not enough RAM on CVMs ?... 32GB its a best practices. thks guys ! Sig'

NOS 4.6 CIFS?

CIFS is supported via Hyper-V currently. Rumor has it that native CIFS for the NTNX File servers is scheduled for the NOS 4.6 release. Is there any pre-GA information on this?

Nested Shares on AFS

Hi, we have the need for nested shares on our fileserver. While this was easy on NetApp Filer it seems impossible with Nutanix AFS, or I am missing something. We are currently on latest GA release AFS 2.0.2. with AOS 5.0.2 on ESXi 6.0U2. Is this on the roadmap or even possible with AFS 2.1? Replacing Fileservers (Windows or NetApp, doesnt matter) could only be done with full feature set. best regards Steffen

Nested HyperV on AHV

Has anyone successfully been able to get HyperV(or ESXi) nested under AHV? I do see nested [b]KVM[/b] VM's are supported but no mention of anything else. Only reason for exploring this is to get Cisco Umbrella VA's working under AHV so i don't have to re-purpose an old server to run HyperV/ESXi.

ESXi 6.0 Upgrade to 6.7U2

I'm trying to upgrade ESXi 6.0 to 6.7U2 but when try to do it from Prism im getting errors on DRS not enabled. Now we don't have DRS license, our cluster is ESXi 6.0 Standard License, is there any way to do the upgrade without the needs of DRS ?I read few documents that even if i try to use vCenter Update manager update will fail becasue DRS is not enabled. Any workaround solution ?

VM network Troubleshooting

Hello,  If you use balance-slb, how does one figure out which physical is being used by one VM ? For instance, with ESXi I’d run esxtop, and I can see which physical nic is being “mapped” to my virtual nic. Is it possible with AHV? If yes how ?  I think it is important when you troubleshoot.

Network connectivity issues in a Cluster

The setup is a cluster with 3 hosts. The cluster is up and running.However, the VMs connected to one of the hosts are not able to access the internet or other VMs on the network.If any of the affected VM is migrated to another host in the cluster, then it will be able to access the internet or other VMs on the network.Once it is returned to the faulty host, the connectivity problem will persist again.

Hyper-V - Persistent Reservations & Corrupt VHDs

[b]How do Persistent Reservations work with Hyper-V on Nutanix?[/b] [list] [*]I'm asking because with our other "Hyper-V with SMB Storage" clusters, you are not able to use Hyper-V manager on [b]HOST1[/b] to modify VHDs that belong to a VM running on [b]HOST2[/b], as you would expect - Error reads: "Access Denied". However, with Nutanix, we are able to do this and it leads to VHD corrouption upon next reboot of the VM [*]Here is the scenario:[list] [*]Hosts: 5 node Nutanix cluster with Hyper-V (Dell XC hardware) [*]VM1 is running on HOST1 [*]Using HOST2, launch Hyper-V manager ([i]not Failover Cluster Manager). ESXi5.5 Upgrade and patch installation - Supported-QA vertified

Hi all, We have a 3x node Dell XC630-10 Cluster running on AOS4.5.0.2 - Starter License. These nodes are running a Dell Customised 5.5U2 VMware image. I want to upgrade these nodes to a Dell 5.5U3-A04 image build 3248547. This will have to be done manually as we do not have DRS running (Standard VMware license). On top of the image I want to patch them to "Patch 8" level - release date - 04/AUG/2016 (Patch 9 available now). However reading the [url=http://www.nutanix.com/support/support-faqs/#hypervisor-support]Hypervisor FAQ[/url] it seems that major/minor vSphere releases are supported and QA certified within 90 days of GA. Therefore my question is: After applying the Dell 5.5U3 Custom image then, in theory, I can only apply Express Patch 10 build 3568722- 22/Feb/2016? Comments are much appreciated.

Windows Boot F8 Delay

Hi, When using AHV, is there a way to set the black (pre-boot) screen in the VM duration longer. I was trying to press the F8 key, to get into directory restore mode/safe mode, but the black (pre-boot) screen raced by... Thanks G
