I am looking for a patching product that will tie into Nutanix and be able to take a snapshot before patching, we are looking to automate this process to get away from manually taking snapshots prior to deploying patches. We do have Protection Domains setup but with the timing intervals it is not ideal only use those pre-deploy as they can be hours behind the actual patching deployments. If anyone is using a product that has this capability please let me know or if you may have a better way to accomplish this within Nutanix.
joshodgers has posted an interesting blog on his site on a new AHV feature -- Compute Only nodes. The concept of Compute Only node will enable infra teams to give their application and DB admin counterparts more CPU/Memory per node. Nutanix clusters can now be made up of compute only and storage only nodes minimizing if not eliminating any licensing concerns they had in the past for workloads like Oracle, SQL Server etc. Best practices for setting high performance databases will be coming soon. Reply back in this thread to let our Database SMEs know if you have specific questions you'd like them to address in their best practices. Attempting to add the Hyper-V feature to a fresh Server 2016 VM. I receive the message: "Hyper-V cannot be installed because virtualization support is not enabled in the BIOS" After picking through some very limited search results I attempted to modify the VM using "cpu_passthrough=true", however the error remains. Any advice to get this working? Thanks Andy
AOS: v4.7.1 Server Platform: Multiple Hyper-V (2012 r2) clusters It appears that if you whitelist an IP that belongs to either a Server 2016 or a Windows 10 machine, that machine still can not access the SMB share being published by our Nutanix (v4.7.1) clusters. We found this out after upgrading our SCVMM server to Server 2016. At this point, the VMM server can 'see' the shares but can not calculate share size (reports 0GB) and therefore can't manage the share(s). Since then we've tested with multiple other 2016 and Windows 10 machines - all with the same result: added to the whitelist but can't browse the share, even from Windows Explorer. We are looking for confirmation that this is a known issue. If so, can you confirm if it's resolved by an upgrade to v5.0.2?
Hi guys, we're planning to move/migrate my MS SQL workload from physical standalone host to a new Nutanix cluster. We already engaged with local Nutanix representative for this. However, we encountered a few hurdles in terms of performance during and we can't be sure whether we have the right sizing for our performance requirement. Current Production Physical host:- Processor: Intel Xeon E5-2690v3 @ 2.6GHz (single socket, 12C 24T) RAM: 96GB (However only 64GB usable for the MS SQL 2008R2 DB) Disks: Database MDF resides in a SSD RAID 5 diskgroup. (6 disks), OS and LDF etc resides in other disk groups, SAS disks 10K, 15K RAID 10, RAID 1 etc. Test Unit ( 3 nodes):- Processor: Intel Xeon E5-2650 v4 @ 2.2 GHz (dual socket, 24C 48T) per node RAM: 512GB per node Disks: 6 x 1.6TB Intel S3610 SATA (All Flash) Hypervisor: AHV 126.96.36.199 Network: 10GbE RJ45 SQL Test VM created in Nutanix test cluster:- 12 vCPU 96GB RAM CVM size: 12 vCPU 32GB RAM Test Result from MS SQL s
Hi,I am always taken care.I'll upgrade Hyper-V 2012R2 to 2016 on XC630 so I have some questions.・metadata(json) download from Nutanix Portal. Can I do that Hypervisor ISO file there ?・What difference are metadata(json) each ? ・Use Hypervisor ISO file of Evaluation version, is it OK?・ISO's language adapt any languages? or English only? Sincerely,
Post depoying Prism Element 5.5 we added Nutanix cluster which are running AOS 5.1.3 & AOS 5.1.2. But while launching element from central it shows error unable to access prism element. This happens with IE & Chrome
Hi, I am always taken care. I use CloudConnect by VPN connection to AWS and enable NW compression.Everyday repeat that.Since 1 year ago, All PDs are failed. below the message on Prism ;---Replication was skipped for protection domain XXXX of snapshot (X,X,X) to remote site XXX. Replication was skipped as a newer snapshot was available.---I executed cli on CVM, replication statuses are “Sending” .---$ncli pd list-replication-status Replication Operation : Sending And I did “Test Connection” on Prism was “OK”. What do you think this reason? Sincerely,
I have a problem with a CVM that won’t boot. This is on a semi-retired production cluster (not CE) that has no workloads running on it.I found the console output in /tmp/NTNX.serial.out.0 and I can see it trying to enable RAID devices, scan for a uuid marker and find 2 of them, then abort and unload the mpt3sas kernel module before trying again in 5 seconds. This repeats a few times before the hypervisor resets it and it starts booting again. The most relevant sections of the log (copious kernel taint messages removed) are [ 9.543553] sd 2:0:3:0: [sdd] Attached SCSI disksvmboot: === SVMBOOTmdadm main: failed to get exclusive lock on mapfile[ 9.790075] md: md127 stopped.mdadm: ignoring /dev/sdb3 as it reports /dev/sda3 as failed[ 9.794087] md/raid1:md127: active with 1 out of 2 mirrors[ 9.796034] md127: detected capacity change from 0 to 42915069952mdadm: /dev/md/phoenix:2 has been started with 1 drive (out of 2).[ 9.808602] md: md126 stopped.[ 9.813330] md/raid1:md126:
Hi everyone, I'm struggling to find some documents about how ahv manages the virtual machine's ram. As far as I know, it doesn't share ram among vms....but, for example, what about overhead? Is it necessary to consider some overhead in addition to guest ram?Thank you all
Hi, We have deployed couple of guest VMs on Windows 2019 Standard Edition OS on our 6 node cluster. Both the guests are configured with 1 VCPU with 2 cores along with 16 & 32 memory respectively. We have procured standard paper license of the OS. The hypervisors are running on AHV version 20170830.337 & AOS - 188.8.131.52 LTS. Is there any specific licensing model for Windows Server OS to run on AHV? How are the Windows licenses determined? Kindly help.
Hello. I'm trying to understand the sizer. How to calculate Applied Weight? CPU Type : 2 x Intel Xeon Processor 6252 (2.1 GHz, 24 cores) (48 Cores) Actual Core Capacity : 336.00 Applied Weight : 74.39 Adjustment Due To Memory Issues : 0.00 Adjustment Due To NUMA Considerations : 0.00 Effective RAW Capacity : 410.39 (Actual Core Capacity + Applied Weight) https://sizer.nutanix.com/#/help/articles/155 => Page does not open
Hi, I'm currently installing ubuntu on a VM. I notice the installation process is extremely slow. The downloading of files is going fast, but the actual installing isn't. Is this common when installing ubuntu on a nutanix VM? I tried different version, but they are all very slow. Thanks!
Hello, like other post i know if exist an UPS brand to graceful shutdown Nutanix clusters in Vmware enviroment. I've read that about APC, is ti working? https://next.nutanix.com/blog-40/apc-powerchute-network-shutdown-is-certified-nutanix-ready-core-management-operations-19890 Thanks in advance
Hi All, I am trying to migrate one Windows 10 PC to Nutanix Acropolis. I tried to run a full backup with Veeam endpoint and tried the baremetal recovery in to Nutanix and that did not work. I tried this method for almost all of our servers (but they are already on nutanix) to restore into our test environment (running Nutanix CE) with out any issues. But this time I am doing it with Physical device to virtual and did not work. So is there any other method to do this. I see a lot of topics here mentioned vCenter converter but I never used it. Is there any particular steps I need to be careful about when using that tool. Thank you,
My customer reported that in their test, the CPU Usage of AHV VM always consumes 10% higher than ESXi so I am going to find out what is the most suitable reason behind this problem I have searched around and find out this blog below that having a paragraph pointing about hypervisor bottleneck: "The Nutanix Controller VM (CVM) runs on top of multiple hypervisors and delivers excellent performance, but there is always room for improvement. With our extensive experience with in-kernel and virtual machine based storage solutions, we quickly learned that the biggest bottleneck is the hypervisor itself." On the other hand, I have tested by myself on the scenario in which I have built up 2 VMs with the same configuration on 2 clusters having same Nutanix model and run the CPU tes
Hello All, I have 01 NX-1065-G6 block including 3 nodes. AOS Version : 5.10.5 AHV Version : 20170830.279 After a power outage, I would like virtual machines to start automatically in a predefined order; for instance, domain controller first, Exchange server secondly, and so forth... With ESXi I can do this in a very simply manner. How to do this with AHV ? Please help. Thanks.
Hi all, I am new to Nutanix and am looking for best practices around swap space on Nutanix AHV VMs. Having SSD drives it is understood swap (writes) will decrease hardware life. Can swap be allocated only to HDD drives only and/or is it best to use a low swappiness value to lower the amount of swaps? Thanks,
