Let's say you're running a huge infrastructure of 10 pretty big SQL VMs and just shifted your infrastructure to Nutanix. You must be bewildered and confused regarding the best practices of SQL in Nutanix and how can you improve the performance. For most SQL server databases, there is nothing that needs to be done in order to successfully run on Nutanix. SQL servers with small DBs are normal and okay but what about larger workloads?Do we have some best practices guide that can help us improve our performance?Yes, we have some general recommendation for running SQL workloads. PROBLEM: When doing VM Migration from XenCenter to AHV, the VM gives a boot disk error at the startup in AHV after migration. I am referring this article (https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000kAKJCA2) which seems to be the exact case what I am trying to do here. Every step is going smooth, but I am facing error only when the VM is migrated and when I start the VM it will always go into disk check and boot device not found error. So how much do you run your cluster memory usage? Currently we are at 50% usage but still adding VM's. My boss wants to run this to 100% and doesn't understand why I keep telling him this is a bad idea. I am trying to keep it at 2/3 to 3/4 usage of capacity. Am I right or wrong on this? I am doing a bad job of explaining this to my boss who doesn't seem to believe me so do you guys have any resources that can help me explain this? Right now we are running application servers and no core functions but we are looking to migrate our DHCP servers. We have 1.1 TB of memory capacity running at 51% usage. CPU usage is not a problem running at about 12%. Storage is also fine. We are running 6x Dell 740XC if that helps.
We wanted to look at deploying teradata on to our vmware / nutanix environment. Does anyone have expereince with this? I'm hearing that Teradata does nto support nfs for datastores when virtualized, but the way nutanix handles disks negates a lot of the typical nfs problems. Are there any best practices to follow for teradata, and has anyone had experience with this?
Hi All, Hope you are doing well. I have question regarding the storage usage and space reclaimation in VMWare 6.5 with Nutanix clusters. This question is more into VMware instead of Nutanix, thought of checking here. Just to give a overview we have Nutanix nodes and we have got VMWare 6.x installed on the nodes, a single storage pool and multiple containers. I got a RHEL VM migrated from the old environment and it got 4 disks (10GB, 20 GB, 500GB & 5 GB), all the 4 disks are in the same DS and thin provisioned. No deduplication & compression enabled on those. Now when I access the VMware web console and look for the vmdk files by browsing the files in the DS, I can see a different capacity from the actual usage compared at the server level. When I see the same VM via PRISM and I cannot see the 4 disks assigned to it. It shows only 1 disk with some 160 MB used out of 20 GB and none other than that. Could you please help me to understand why its not showing the disks in the P
Hi !I want to make an image of a windows server on the ABS disk. How can I copy the file to images on CVM to start migrate the Fysical server to Virtual. WinSCP is so slow so it will take 6-7 hours. To write it to ABS iSCSI it is fast but only problem to copy it to AOS. File system is NTFS.thanks!-Kim W-
Hi... I can't create a Instance in Availiable Zone on openstack portal with this error. I’m in the process of migrating from VMWare to AHV. I was curious if there are any licensing changes in regard to SQL. Do I need to just make sure that I have enough core licensing to run the actual VM or do I have to buy core licenses for every core on my entire 4 node cluster? I heard of something called infinity that I could use to keep my VM on just one node? Thanks for your help!
Hi there, I’m a network guy and this is my first time post here. Sorry if I broke any forum rule. We are having some issue with vServer host on Nutanix, and I would like to see if any experts here can tell the solution of the problem from nutanix stand-point. We have nutanix setup as LACP and connects to two nexus switches(5000) by using virtual port-channel. Sometimes mac address of vServer showed incomplete on arp table in one of the switches, not only one vServer. Then we finally realized that if we shutdown one port of the switch, which mac address incomplete in arp table, the vServer started to work immediately. After we executed no shut, the issue was back again. We checked the issue from switch stand-point, but couldn’t find any issue. Is anyone know the issue can be related to Nutanix? Thank you.
Does anyone know of any official documentation on the best way to perform a migration from Hyper-V 2016 on Nutanix to a new AHV cluster (not an in place migration)? Or any good guides on doing this? It is going from Hyper-V 2016 to AHV but 2012 would be helpful. I have found a few articles but they are either quite old or not very well written. Good evening. We are evaluating some nutanix offerings from a local partner. However I have some Microsoft related question and the partner is taking too long to respond. 1- Is there a version of Nutanix Acropolis/PRISM (4 node)that allows me to run unlimited Windows VMs without me needing to purchase a MS Windows DataCenter Core License from Microsoft? 2- Is there a PRISM/Acropolis Pro version that comes with a built in Windows Datacenter valid license? Or 3-Do I need (as usual) to buy my Datacenter Core licenses to properly license my new Windows VMs? Thanks
My issue is related to installing the Direct Access role on a AHV VM running server 2016. Here is my environment. AOS: 5.6 Hypervisor: Nutanix 20170830.115 Windows OS: Server 2016 VirtIO Drivers 1.1.2 Server Imaged with SCCM I've deployed many Direct Access servers in the past and I am seeing very unique issues with trying to configure it on AHV for the first time. 1.) After configuring the role, the Tunnel adapter 6TO4 is NOT created 2.)After configuring the role, the Tunnel adapter IPHTTPSInterface is NOT created 3.)After configuring the role, the server fails to retrieve gpudpates 4.) Upon rebooting the server, the Distributed Transaction Coordinator service fails to start. However, if I deploy the EXACT same server image on a VMware VM, it works perfectly. Is there a known issue when deploying the DirectAccess role on a AHV(KVM) VM?
