Did you know you can secure your IMPI Web Interface with an SSL Certificate? Securing the IPMI Web interface is recommended to help reduce susceptibility to attacks. You can further enhance security by installing your own customized certificate or a CA-signed certificate. Nutanix recommends strong keys and signature algorithms. The IPMI module supports SHA2 and RSA 2048 bit SSL. Avoid long certificate chains or large certificates. If the IPMI module shows the default or previously-installed certificate after you install a new one, or you are unable to log in to the IPMI web interface, the chain is too long (chain length longer than one) or certificate too large. As a test, create a simple self-signed certificate and install it to ensure the IPMI is working correctly before attempting to install larger certificates. You can use openssl or keytool to generate keys, certificates, and signing requests. Similarly to any other certificate deployment, the process consists of two steps
We have a very long domain name and with the current config we are using the UPN (email@example.com) name to login. This is becoming very irritating for me to enter the domain name each time I login. Can we configure a default domain for all the login users to use if the user didn’t mention any domain and of course if we don’t have local user by the same name?
Right now we about to push ESXi 5.5 u3b so we can move on up to AOS 184.108.40.206. Since Nutanix doesn't support pushing out patches, we planned to do that with VUM which is fine. At least saving time from having to bring down each node manually for upgrading to u3b. On top of patching, we're also installing NFS VAAI VIB. In our lab, we do it via command line, but has anyone found a zip, or package that VUM can support pushing out that way we can just package our baseline with updates and the VIB file? We can't find anywhere that has a zip file or anything we can leverage thus far. Since we have two data centers a good number of nodes in the cluster at each, We'd love to save time if at all possible, so any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
HI, Actually i am able to create folder using nfs whitelist in the nutanix smb share but not able to see the option for that. Then i came to know that we cannot give permission like that for the folder in the nutanix share.is that true.currently we shared a volume from one vm as share. thanks ritchie
just wondering the following:Everywhere you look it shows nutanix configuration of 2 or 4 SSD with the rest being HDD. With the advance of having all flash nodes on every model, is there anything stopping us having lets's say 6 SSD and 4 HDD? Or 5 of each in a node supporting 10 Disks?Does the Pro License also enable us to pin VM or part of it to SSD?

Hi I followed the steps in page to upgrade NCC. I can upgrade NCC by a single installer file (ncc_installer_filename.sh) successfully. But I cannot upgrade NCC by a compressed tar file (ncc_installer_filename.tar.gz). After extract the installation package, I type command to run the install script as below. It showed “Installation of ncc failed on node xx.xx.xx.xx” . I tired to run the script on each cluster, they generated the same error. How to troubleshoot the issue?
I’m working on building a SQL Cluster on Nutanix using shared storage. Having issues on some of the steps in the ‘Creating a Windows Guest VM Failover Cluster’ walkthrough. (https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details/?targetId=Advanced-Admin-AOS-v510:vmm-failover-cluster-create-t.html) Have (not real values, used for example): SQL01A - 10.100.1.20 SQL01B - 10.100.1.21 Cluster Virtual IP - 10.100.1.10 iSCSI Data Services IP - Not set (blank) SQL01VGroup - Target IQN Prefix here Status/Completed: I’ve already created a volume group with a few disks for testing. I have NOT attached it to the VMs yet. I’ve enabled MPIO on each of the 2 servers I’ve enabled iSCSI Devices in the Multipaths tab Where I’m stuck is the next portion on the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator/Target Portal IP portion. The guide is not very clear on what I should be doing. From the Guide: From the Server Manager, add and enable the Multipath I/O feature in Tools > MPIO. Add support for iSCSI devices by ch
Hi All Is anybody else just going round and round in circles with Nutanix and the network it resides on? I am getting soooo peeeeeee'd off!! The man at the show said easy peasy, 15 minutes to deploy, which 15 minutes? The last 15 in 2019? Dell supplied, but don't really know the product so they pass calls off to Nutanix who do their bit (very well, no complaint there) but then hand the things about Dell back to Dell, so I am not getting a joined up answer. So the crux is that I don't have a stable network and I am ready to rip it all out and go back to VMware. Unfortunately my budget has gone and I have to rely on Communities for answers - not a lot forthcoming. Is anyone else having these sort of problems or is it just me?
Hi, My CVM is reporting low on disk space and trying to cleanup. I tried to follow the KB1540 and noticed the logs directory needs to be clean up. Its consuming around 8.1G the rm cmd in article dont see to apply for logs folder. Any suggestion on how to free up space under logs safely? Can i winscp and delete the logs files? Thanks CT
Executive SummaryThis document makes recommendations for designing, optimizing, and scaling Microsoft SQL Server deployments on the Nutanix enterprise cloud. Historically, it has been a challenge to virtualize SQL Server because of the high cost of traditional virtualization stacks and the impact that a SAN-based architecture can have on performance. Businesses and their IT departments have constantly fought to balance cost, operational simplicity, and consistent predictable performance.Nutanix removes many of these challenges and makes virtualizing a business-critical application such as SQL Server much easier. The Nutanix distributed storage fabric is a software-defined solution that provides all the features one typically expects in an enterprise SAN, without a SAN’s physical limitations and bottlenecks. SQL Server particularly benefits from the following storage features: Localized I/O and the use of flash for index and key database files to lower operation latency. A highly dist
Hello guys, I have a question regarding schedule auto-reboot of nutanix hyper-v nodes. Understand there is a cau preupdate powershell script to auto reboot the node 1 by 1 and ensure CVM is up and running before executing reboot action on the next node. Is there a similar script we can use so that we can schedule auto reboot the Hyper-V nodes 1 by 1 without having the risk of all the nodes / CVM or cluster down at the same time? Thanks. Regards, Tze Siong
Let's say you just upgraded your AOS to the latest version and now you are receiving this alert in your environment. "Disk space usage for root on Controller VM has exceeded 80%" The Nutanix CVM is what runs the Nutanix software and serves all of the I/O operations for the hypervisor and all VMs running on that host. Not sure how to bring the root partition on the CVM below 80% and which document to consult to? The following knowledgebase articles might help you in resolving the alert. KB-7604 KB-6637
It happens to the best of us. We are human beings and we make mistakes. Sometimes it means that we forget or lose root passwords to one or more of our AHV hosts. There are two ways out of that situation. Log into the AHV host from CVM using the host's local IP address. Make sure that you are logging into the CVM of the problematic host. Change root password. Re-image the AHV host. Hello again CE community! I'm running a Dell R730 with these specs: 2 Sockets 8 Cores Each Socket 256 GB RAM I'm running ESXi to run a 4-node cluster and want to parcel the CPU and Memory evenly among the 4 CVMs. Q1: Based on this, what should my CVM CPU/RAM settings be? Q2: When I allocate vCPU and RAM for VMs, how do I translate a bare-metal config spec e.g. 4x WS2016 8 CPU, 32 GB RAMto Nutanix VM specs, based on these constraints? I just need an example to shine light on how to break down the physical to esxi to nutanix CVM to VM specs. Thanks in advance, Brit
Hello, We are in the process of moving our VMWare site to Nutanix. With 3 locations i would like some design tips to setup the NTNX sites/cluster(s). I am very new to nutanix. Situation: 3 fysical sites, 2 sites with 4 NTNX hosts and 1 site with 3 NTNX hosts. Every site dedicated fiber connection. The 2 "4 hosts sites" are for production, the 3 hosts site will be otap and/or extra hosts for production. How to design the NTNX cluster(s) with minimal risk of loosing data and the most redundancy. If someone needs more info please let me know grtz
Hi there, I am new with Nutanix and I have a doubt about Acropolis licensing. We have 3 nutanix nodes with Acropolis Start Edition installed. Yesterday, my PRISM console report a License Feature Violation. Looking at https://www.nutanix.com/products/software-options , the only thing that I saw that could be wrong in my configuration was a Volume Group created for a test. Just to be sure, in an Acropolis Start Edition can we create volume groups or this option should only be used in PRO and ULTIMATE editions? The alert don’t give me more information about which feature is violating the license. Thanks in advance for the help! BR, Thelmo
Let's say you have bought a new node(Yayy) and want to expand your cluster. Nutanix provides you with a GUI method to expand your cluster with ease and simplicity. Confused regarding the steps and the requirements before adding it to your cluster? Let's break down the queries to help you understand cluster expansion and the requirements in detail. When can you add the node in your cluster? If the node is physically present in the cluster network subnet, you can go ahead with cluster expansion. What should I check before cluster expansion? The cluster expansion process compares the AOS version on the existing and new nodes and performs any upgrades necessary for all nodes to have the same AOS version. What are the guidelines before proceeding with cluster expansion? What are the specific considerations I should keep in mind in case the hypervisor being AHV, Hyper-V or Esxi? Please go through the documentation to understand the guidelines in-depth. Cluster Expansion Guide Wh
vCenter 7.0U1c and vSphere Clustering Service VMs on local or shared storage. After test upgrading vCenter from 6.5U3 to 7.0U1c (which worked just fine w 0 issues), every vmware cluster with DRS and/or HA enabled gets 3 new vCLS (very tiny VMs w 2GB storage/.13GB RAM).When NCC is ran it registers 3 WARNs that there are VMs running on the SATADOM’s. I would assume that, even what (little) they do (today), would this wear out Satadom’s or M.2’s?Would this be a concern for G4/G5’s (w Satadoms) and not G6/G7’s (M.2’s)?”While vCLS can be moved to shared storage, wouldn’t they be moved back to local storage during an NX cluster stop?(Like to point out this was done in a LAB environment, not in Production… no bits nor bytes were harmed during the upgrade progress.)
Hi Everyone, I've planed to deploy Spunk on Nutanix on my Company. But i'm newbie in Nutanix, so I have some question about this: 1. Nutanix have hypervisor which I can use is ESXi, HyperV,KVM... so in my case, I will use Esxi and rehat to install Splunk. it's mean I have install Splunk on Redhat which is running on ESXi, is it right? Can i install Redhat directly to Nutanix server (1 node have 4 server?) 2. About the Cluster, Which is control the cluster on VM Host? Vmware vCenter or Nutanix Prism Central? 3. Nutanix have an OS is VM Controller? is it install on Vmware machine or is it a hypervisor? Thanks for all reply to make my clear this stuff.
