Derek Seaman blogged about the now renamed Move 3.0 on his site. Architecturally, this is an important milestone as we “servicify” move and provide the ability to add/update features without much service disruption as well as providing flexibility to run Move anywhere. [*]GA release of Hyper-V as a source, adding to source list of ESXi and AWS [*]1-click upgrade of Move. (Support for dark sites is coming) [*]Further enhancements to User Experience for Large VM migration with enhanced status updates on the UI [*]Support for a Mixed mode of Source VM setup by allowing for a mix of automatically prepared source VMs and manually prepared source V
Hello all,05 months ago, I faced from some difficulties to perform P2V to AHV for UeFi servers : I performed P2V using VMware Converter to migrate to an ESXi server; and after I used “move” to migrate to AHV. While booting the VM, I saw a black screen and nothing else appeared on the screen. As I said above, it happened 05 months ago; At this time, Nutanix did not support migration of Uefi servers yet.Since the release of AOS5.11 and Move 3.3, Nutanix supports the migration of Uefi servers (As explained in the release notes). So I migrated AOS to the latest version (5.11.1) and used Move 3.3.1 to perform migrations of 03 servers that use Uefi.In spite of that, the VMs displays nothing while booting...even if I wait for several minutes, I get nothing. In PRISM, I switched the boot mode to BIOS and after to Uefi, but I got the same results. In vCenter, I switched the boot mode to BIOS before performing migration. After Migration (using Move 3.3.1), the results are the same. Could you help me
We have a couple production SQL servers on our ESXi Cluster that need be transitioned to our new Nutanix Cluster. Nutanix Best Practices indicates that the SQL servers should be created new on the Nutanix Cluster instead of doing a VM move from ESXi to AHV. I am aware that Nutanix had Xtract Db for awhile that was supposed to make moving a SQL instance possible but they have since discontinued the product. I must assume they had issues with it. My question is what are the technical implications of using Nutanix Move to "move" the SQL VM from ESXi to AHV? I have used the tool to move a number of non-SQL VMs without any issues. Knowing that the underlying Hyper-visor components are changing and the VirtIO drivers must be installed before the move and then NGT installed after the move, what might the issue be that discourages or prevents a SQL VM cross-hyper-visor move? The SQL version is 2016 Standard with no mirroring or Always on Availability. Just standalone SQL. We hav

Hello, I want to migrate vm from vmware vsphere 6.7 to AHV. When i create source and target i find that connections to vcenter and ahv are ok. But, number discovered vm's on vsphere is 0 and "create a migration plan" button is greyed out. What is a problem? xtract 2.0.2. Regards, Mindaugas
I was intially told I could use Move to take VMs from old Cluster to New Cluster but alas Move does not move from AHV to AHV, this I find very bizarre as that should be more simple than moving esxi to ahv!So, I have been told to use Data Protection failover - this seems complicated and needs VMs to be stopped and restarted - I came across Live Migration using Leap - ah ha that looks like a good option but still apears complex. Do I really need 2 Prism Central instances? Could I add the second cluster to my exisiting Prism Central then use the Migrate function to move some VMs or is the limitation of different harware still the gotcha?Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this “easily” and “quickly” my boss ain’t a happy man as information from Nutanix has been misleading or downright incorrect.Any help appreciated.
I attempted several times to move a test VM over and I am running into a issue with the Mount Container process. Is there a fix for this. I suspect it to be an Firewall issue, Any help would be appreciated.Failed VM Migration: prepare target: [[Location="/hermes/go/src/tgtagent/ahvtargetprovider.go:567", Msg="Error creating target path [Container="default-container-90861820611740", Err="exit status 32", Location="/hermes/go/src/libcloud/prism/ahvmountimpl.go:146"] Container mount failed (error=0x4012)"] Target agent error (error=0x4003)]
So guys I’ve got a flexlm license server running Windows Server 2019 that I am trying to use Move to migrate into my AHV cluster. I tried migrating it once and it blew up the license server since I guess it builds a unique machine ID using a disk and perhaps CPU ID. Any idea on how to clone this in Move so when it comes across FlexLM and other license daemons are none the wiser?
Hi. I’m looking for some experiences in migrating windows user vms from acropolis hypervisor to vmware esxi. I tried and followed severals KBs and articles but none were successful. After powering on windows VM on esxi, they immediately go to the famous “blue screen” and don’t recognize the disk. Articles that I followed: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA032000000PMcKCAWhttps://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA03200000098T7CAIhttps://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Prism-Central-Guide-Prism-v5_19:mul-vm-export-as-ova-pc-t.htmlhttps://next.nutanix.com/move-application-migration-19/want-to-export-a-vm-from-ahv-here-s-how-37275Has anyone has experience with this ? Can you help me ? Best regards
I tryed to run xtract but I'm facing a problem to install the VirtIO tools. Using the automatic script on xtract it's end with the error: "ExitCode: '1603'". If I try to install VirtIO manually the show this message "ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified". Creating a verbose log file, from the installation, I see some errors like this: MSI (c) (08:18) [22:06:00:591]: Package to be registered: 'Nutanix-VirtIO-1.1.3.msi' MSI (c) (08:18) [22:06:00:591]: Note: 1: 2205 2: 3: Error MSI (c) (08:18) [22:06:00:591]: Note: 1: 2262 2: AdminProperties 3: -2147287038 or Action start 22:06:00: PrepareDlg. We are transferring vdisks from one Nutanix environment to another. We are going from Euphrates 5.5.8 to Euphrates 5.9. The copy seems to work but then after a while (maybe 15 minutes) the files in the new environment disappear. We’ve tried this several times with the same results. One vDisk is around 26 GB and the other is 2 TB. Has anyone seen this and what is the problem and the solution?
Long story short, W2016 server moving from HV to AHV. VirtIO drivers are installed (before migration) but whenever the machine boots after migrating to AHV, it's bsods with inaccessible boot device. If I go through the whole booting to recovery, deleting the driver and injecting the driver, it boots up but that's a lot of manual handling. When MOVE migrates to AHV it boots up as SATA drive then it seems to clone the disk and reattaches it as a SCSI drive. It boots to the desktop as SATA but then as a SCSI drive it fails, so the driver issue makes sense. The issue is why the drivers are not working when they're installed on the HV machine before migration and don't work after.
When trying to move from esxi to AHV of a VM with OS Debian 10, I get an error This VM is not on the AHV supported OS list. To proceed with migrating this VM, please be sure to bypass guest operations and take care of installing AHV device drivers separately. This VM has a guest OS which is not supported on ESXi. Please remove the vm from the migration plan if migrating to ESXi. Is it OS not supported?
Good Day, I am new to Nutanix, so this may be a very simple question to answer. How do you move VMs on hyper-v 2008 to AHV. The AHV version is 20170830.270. I thought of Nutanix Move, but move does seem to support hyper-v 2008. Any guidance would be welcome, thank you.
Hello; When i try to migrate a Vm from Esxi to AHV with Move, the operation is being failed sometimes. Migration Status steps go well until last step "install device drivers". The error is this: "Failed to execute guest command: 'msiexec.exe /i C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\vmware174\Nutanix-VirtIO-latest-stable.msi /quiet' ExitCode: '1603'." My AOS version is 5.10.5. The OS is windows server 2016. I logged in with Built-in Administrator account and i installed VirtIO 1.1.4 manually. I can migrate some Server 2016 Vms but there is a problem about some Vms.
I am looking for a solution to change the web GUI password of the user nutanix in Xtract 2.0.3. In the doc I only see how to change it during the first login. I have already opened a ticket with support. But there I was told to redeploy the Xtract VM to change the password. This is not really a solution for me to spend all the time again to have all configured just to have another password. Can someone help me with that?
I wanted to clarify if Xtract is just for converting from ESXi / Hyper-V /AWS to AHV or if ESXi to ESXi conversions are suppported with Xtract 2.0 / Move 3.0. We have about 100 VMs we'd like to move from one ESXi cluster to another ESXi cluster and I know we could use VM Converter or cross cluster vMotions (where supported) but wanted to see if the native Nutanix tools are also an option for this type of migration. I had thought it was mainly for migrations to AHV, has that changed?
