Migrating or creating new VM templates

We are migrating workloads from VMware (vSphere 6.5) to Nutanix AHV (AOS 5.15 LTS). With regards to VM templates, any advantage in creating new templates on AHV? Any gotchas if we migrate (as per procedure, prepare and use Nutanix Move) VM templates to AHV? Anyway, we will have to migrate most workloads, but was wondering about VM templates. We’re leaning towards erring on the side of caution and creating new templates (Linux/Windows) on AHV. However, I just wanted to know if anybody experienced issues with VMs built from migrated templates on AHV and any feedback.

Migration from ESXI to AHV

Is there any way to migrate a VM running in VMware ESXI to AHV without using Nutanix Move?  What about if the client has the VM files( vmx, vmdk, etc ) in his external storage device and want to import into AHV?

Failed to get inventory for source

Hello everyoneI am trying to move a VM from my VSPHERE environment to my AHV environment using Nutanix Move. I am able to add the source and target without any problem, but when I launch the migration after a few minutes I get this error: Failed to get inventory for source 'vcenterfrbec01.bechard.local'. [Location="/hermes/go/src/srcagent/client/srcagentclient_grpc_impl.go:97", Msg="rpc error: code = Unknown desc = panic triggered"] Source Agent Client error. (error=0x301c)Please help me

Unable to Migrate Fortisiem Collector From VMware to AHV

Hello Team, We are trying to migrate Fortisiem VMs ( Collectors & Supervisors ) from VMWARE to AHV using Move but facing Authentication Failed issue. We verified and we have root access to the VMs and all the rights on the 2 VMs.  Also, the distribution of VMs are Redhat 4.4.7-23). Maybe it’ s a problem of Os compatibility, what do you all think.

Move 3.6.2 - Stuck at Press F2 for EFI Boot Manager

I am moving virtual machines with Move 3.6.2 from Hyper-V to an AHV CE cluster. Everything goes well, but after the cutover the AHV VM is stuck at the ‘Press F2 for EFI boot manager’ screen and cpu usage around 52%. Pressing FN+F2, F2, CTRL+F2, ALT+F2 or other combinations have no effect. Please advise. Hyper-V host is Win2019, VM is 2019 with boot from bootmgfw.efi and secure boot disabled. Also tried with Edge, Chrome and IE, same result, stuck at ‘Press F2 for EFI boot manager’ screen.

Can the Witness VM be migrated From ESXi to AHV?

Hi!We are in the process of migrating our ESXi-vms to Nutanix AHV. Does anyone know if it is a problem to migrate a Witness VM (actually used for two 2-node clusters) to AHV with Nutanix Move or would it be better to install a new one on AHV and switch the clusters over to it?

Nutanix Move 4.6: VM migration from VMware to AHV lacks IP conservation

Hello,We are moving VMs from an existing Nutanix cluster with VMWare to a new cluster with AHV using Nutanix Move 4.6 (last version). The problem is that for VMs with more than one network adapter in use IPs are not assigned most of the times to network adapters after the first one. This is happening for VMs running Windows 2016 but I have not checked if the same thing happens por Linux or other Windows versions but I bet it does. For this cases, Move configures those interfaces to get their IPs via DHCP. I read an old post about this behavior but applies to an older version of Nutanix Move (https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA07V000000LWejSAG). Is anyone experiencing the same problem? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance

Move Windows XP VM

These days I’m managing, for one of customer, the migration of its virtual infrastructure to a Nutanix AHV farm from an old ESXi. It has some old VMs, with Windows XP as guest OS, that have to be migrated in Nutanix. Those VMs have installed custom software that cannot be installed in newer versions of Windows because they have been written in old VB6, so my question are:Can they be migrated over AHV? If yes, can I manage the migration with Nutanix Move or there is another way?

Hello experts, we have got a scenario where we need to migrate the Nutanix hardware from one site to another, unfortunately the client does not have any active LICENCES, is there any risk in migrating the VMs and volume groups.Please suggest

Error during driver install portion of Move

I’m trying to migrate off VMWare and ESXi. During Move preparation of the plan I keep getting this error:Failed to execute guest command: '/tmp/nutanix_move/vmware326/installAMD.sh' ExitCode: 'dracut: installkernel failed in module kernel-modules-extra'. Move version 5.2.0Nutanix version pc.2023.3 Anyone run into this and know what the fix is.

Migrating VMs from vSphere RDM

I am preparing to migrate several Windows Server VMs from VMware vSphere into Nutanix. Xtract Error: Snapshot hierarchy is too deep..

Hi everyone, I tried to setup lab for migrade UVM from ESXi 6.5 to AHV 5.10 using Xtract VM. After data seeding completed I select to cutover VM. However, migration was failed with error "Failed to create VM snapshot 'XTRACT-VMSnap-31'. Error: Snapshot hierarchy is too deep.." So, I've checked in snapshot manager and found many snapshot was create by Xtract tools. Does anyone face this issue before? How did you solve this problem? Thank you. permssions Required for Xtract AWS user

Hi We're trying to move a couple of servers from AWS to out Nutanix cluster. I keep running into "access denied" to various resources on AWS when trying to add it as a source. What are the minimum permissions / role for the IAM account?? Does anyone have a custom policy in JSON format?? thanks

Nutanix Move, hyper-V and ISCSI

I have a Hyper-V VM that I want to migrate to our Nutanix AHV cluster.  This VM has a C Drive and 2 ISCSI mounted drives that are mounted within the VM through the Windows ISCSI Initiator.  Will Move migrate those 2 disks as well or do I need to plan to copy data after the migration has taken place?

Nutanix xtract uac

Hello, I am trying to use nutanix xtract to move a windows server 2016 machine to nutanix. I have a local admin and disabled UAC and rebooted the computer. When i put in the local admin account and it trys to verify it tells me UAC is enabled. I have checked and rechecked. Logged in with different accounts to ensure UAC is disabled and rebooted multiple times. What am I doing wrong? Thank you

Not ready for Migration

Trying to migrate two Windows VMs with Move 3.2 from ESXi to AHV. in the VM Preparation section after adding the credentials "migration rediness" is Pending and the error message shows "2 VMs are not ready for migration." What would cause the VMs not to be ready for migration? the VMs have in production for several months.

Nutanix Move Migration ESXi to AHV

Hello evryone, I want to migrate a Linux VM from VMWare ESXI infrastructure to AHV infrastructure. I use Xtract for do this. But when the plan is created afer a certain time the status plan becomes "failed" and I have this error message : "Internal target agent error '[Container="SMI_DS_NUTANIX_JAG_1", Err="exit status 32", Location="/root/workspace/xtract_vm_qcow2_builder_prod/go/src/tgtagent/ahvtargetprovider.go:985"] Container mount failed (error=0x4012)'" Thank you all for your answers Xtract version : 2.0.2 ESXI version : 5.5 AHV version : 20170830.185
