You may be familiar with using Nutanix Move to migrate VMs into an AHV cluster, or you may have imported VMs to AHV manually following this method, but what if you want to take your VM out of your AHV cluster to use in a non-Nutanix ESXi cluster, or to deploy on Hyper-V or KVM? Note I said non-Nutanix ESXi cluster. If you have a Nutanix ESXi cluster and an AHV cluster it’s much easier to use Async DR migration since this kind of cross hypervisor DR migration is fully supported from Prism. If you need to export your VM from AHV to another hypervisor there is a documented procedure provided. Here we will be using the articles “AHV | How to access VM disk files on Nutanix container” and “AHV | How to migrate user VMs from AHV to Hyper-V/VMware ESXi/KVM”. The first article covers reviewing your VM configuration from ACLI to identify the VM disks which are named by their UUID, and then how to collect those files using the SFTP protocol on port 2222. The second article describes using th
Hi; I have an ubuntu server on vmware and i want to migrate it to AHV with Move. when i type "uname -a" output is: Linux TKMAPP1 4.2.0-42-generic #49~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 29 20:22:11 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux when i type "grep -i virtio /boot/config-`uname -r`" output is: CONFIG_NET_9P_VIRTIO=m CONFIG_VIRTIO_BLK=y CONFIG_SCSI_VIRTIO=m CONFIG_VIRTIO_NET=y CONFIG_CAIF_VIRTIO=m CONFIG_VIRTIO_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_HW_RANDOM_VIRTIO=m CONFIG_DRM_VIRTIO_GPU=m CONFIG_VIRTIO=y # Virtio drivers CONFIG_VIRTIO_PCI=y CONFIG_VIRTIO_PCI_LEGACY=y CONFIG_VIRTIO_BALLOON=y CONFIG_VIRTIO_INPUT=m CONFIG_VIRTIO_MMIO=y CONFIG_VIRTIO_MMIO_CMDLINE_DEVICES=y As i see VirtIO drivers are installed. And then when i start to migrate on Move an error pop up is appears: SCSI VirtIO device driver not found. Please download and install the appropriate device driver before retrying the migration. What can i do for this issue ?

I tryed to run xtract but I'm facing a problem to install the VirtIO tools. Using the automatic script on xtract it's end with the error: "ExitCode: '1603'". If I try to install VirtIO manually the show this message "ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified". Hello all,05 months ago, I faced from some difficulties to perform P2V to AHV for UeFi servers : I performed P2V using VMware Converter to migrate to an ESXi server; and after I used “move” to migrate to AHV. While booting the VM, I saw a black screen and nothing else appeared on the screen. As I said above, it happened 05 months ago; At this time, Nutanix did not support migration of Uefi servers yet.Since the release of AOS5.11 and Move 3.3, Nutanix supports the migration of Uefi servers (As explained in the release notes). So I migrated AOS to the latest version (5.11.1) and used Move 3.3.1 to perform migrations of 03 servers that use Uefi.In spite of that, the VMs displays nothing while booting...even if I wait for several minutes, I get nothing. In PRISM, I switched the boot mode to BIOS and after to Uefi, but I got the same results. In vCenter, I switched the boot mode to BIOS before performing migration. After Migration (using Move 3.3.1), the results are the same. Could you help me
Hi. I’m looking for some experiences in migrating windows user vms from acropolis hypervisor to vmware esxi. I tried and followed severals KBs and articles but none were successful. After powering on windows VM on esxi, they immediately go to the famous “blue screen” and don’t recognize the disk. Articles that I followed: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA032000000PMcKCAWhttps://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA03200000098T7CAIhttps://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Prism-Central-Guide-Prism-v5_19:mul-vm-export-as-ova-pc-t.htmlhttps://next.nutanix.com/move-application-migration-19/want-to-export-a-vm-from-ahv-here-s-how-37275Has anyone has experience with this ? I attempted several times to move a test VM over and I am running into a issue with the Mount Container process. Is there a fix for this. I suspect it to be an Firewall issue, Any help would be appreciated.Failed VM Migration: prepare target: [[Location="/hermes/go/src/tgtagent/ahvtargetprovider.go:567", Msg="Error creating target path [Container="default-container-90861820611740", Err="exit status 32", Location="/hermes/go/src/libcloud/prism/ahvmountimpl.go:146"] Container mount failed (error=0x4012)"] Target agent error (error=0x4003)]
Does anybody encountered this kind of error? when migrating ESXI to AOS. After how many hours of seeding, It show this error. However it is ready to cutover, but doesn’t want to proceed further because of this error. I already checked this VM in EsXi, it already have a VMware tools installed. Hope i can get ideas and recommendations from you guys. Thanks!
Hi All, Would like to seek your advice/recommendation way to migrate physical linux/windows to Nutanix AHV via free tools ONLY without purchase third party tools or additional costs. Just wondering is there any tools that available for us or any alternative way without any additional costs? We have some requirements;5 physical linux servers. 5 physical windows servers. Appreciate it in advanced. Regards,John
Hello evryone, I want to migrate a Linux VM from VMWare ESXI infrastructure to AHV infrastructure. I use Xtract for do this. But when the plan is created afer a certain time the status plan becomes "failed" and I have this error message : "Internal target agent error '[Container="SMI_DS_NUTANIX_JAG_1", Err="exit status 32", Location="/root/workspace/xtract_vm_qcow2_builder_prod/go/src/tgtagent/ahvtargetprovider.go:985"] Container mount failed (error=0x4012)'" Thank you all for your answers Xtract version : 2.0.2 ESXI version : 5.5 AHV version : 20170830.185
My migration team is doing a good job trying to push as many VM’s through Move to stage reboots after-hours. I’ve noticed that replication slows way down when we have about 15-20 VM’s waiting for cutover. I have checked the load on the Move VM and increased the amount of CPUs. Replication goes well (25Gbit network), but now we only have 2 seed streams going with 19 waiting to cutover. I have 4 other VM’s that are in the “seeding data” phase, but haven’t started their copies. Is this a bottleneck within the Move postgres database? Any ideas on how I can get more VM’s copying in parallel? Thanks,
We have a couple production SQL servers on our ESXi Cluster that need be transitioned to our new Nutanix Cluster. Nutanix Best Practices indicates that the SQL servers should be created new on the Nutanix Cluster instead of doing a VM move from ESXi to AHV. I am aware that Nutanix had Xtract Db for awhile that was supposed to make moving a SQL instance possible but they have since discontinued the product. I must assume they had issues with it. My question is what are the technical implications of using Nutanix Move to "move" the SQL VM from ESXi to AHV? I have used the tool to move a number of non-SQL VMs without any issues. Knowing that the underlying Hyper-visor components are changing and the VirtIO drivers must be installed before the move and then NGT installed after the move, what might the issue be that discourages or prevents a SQL VM cross-hyper-visor move? The SQL version is 2016 Standard with no mirroring or Always on Availability. Just standalone SQL. We hav
We are planning our AHV migration and would like to migrate about 75% of our VM’s (~400) during their negotiated patch outage windows to minimize how many app teams get to set our schedule for us. Most of these outage windows are in the 3AM time frame. We would like to find an automated/scripted way to do the cutover so that we can set a job to run that script overnight during that window. I’ve seen some REST calls that look like they could do it. Has anyone actually done it? If so, would they mind sharing a sanitized snippet of their Powershell/REST code? Thanks in advance!
I was intially told I could use Move to take VMs from old Cluster to New Cluster but alas Move does not move from AHV to AHV, this I find very bizarre as that should be more simple than moving esxi to ahv!So, I have been told to use Data Protection failover - this seems complicated and needs VMs to be stopped and restarted - I came across Live Migration using Leap - ah ha that looks like a good option but still apears complex. Do I really need 2 Prism Central instances? Could I add the second cluster to my exisiting Prism Central then use the Migrate function to move some VMs or is the limitation of different harware still the gotcha?Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this “easily” and “quickly” my boss ain’t a happy man as information from Nutanix has been misleading or downright incorrect.Any help appreciated.
Good Day, I am new to Nutanix, so this may be a very simple question to answer. How do you move VMs on hyper-v 2008 to AHV. The AHV version is 20170830.270. I thought of Nutanix Move, but move does seem to support hyper-v 2008. Any guidance would be welcome, thank you.
We are excited to announce the release of Nutanix Move 3.5.0 Adopting new infrastructure platforms often requires a migration of pre-existing systems. Nutanix Move simplifies bulk migration of existing VMs to Nutanix, eliminating the friction associated with onboarding new IT infrastructure. Businesses can quickly leverage the full potential of Nutanix Enterprise Cloud with near-zero VM downtime during the migration from vSphere ESXi, Hyper-V and Amazon AWS to Nutanix AHV and vSphere ESXi to ESXi on Nutanix. Move also support migration of VMs from Nutanix AHV to Amazon AWS. Nutanix Move 3.5.0 is released and the bits are available on the Portal for Download. Move 3.5.0 Release Notes User Guide New features included in this release; Introduced Migration from AWS to ESXi - You can now migrate VMs from AWS to ESXi on Nutanix appliances. Introduced Test Migration - You can now perform a test migration of the VMs on the target environment before the final cutover. Enhanced Move User Interfa
