CVM with several network adapters
Hello, We would like to validate some design aspects. Our environment is based on DELL XC630 & XC730, Nutanix 4.6.4 ( in the future 4.7) and EXi 6.0 u2. As for administration perspective, we need to affect an administration subnet IP to the IPMI interface. The CVM needs to be in a production subnet. There is no routing from production to administration subnet. Is it possible to deploy 2 network cards on the CVM for the CVM to communicate with IPMI interfaces ? Is that a validated and supported design by Nutanix. Thanks in advance for your answers.
Windows BSOD after migration to AHV from different platforms or after P2V conversion
This happens because the Windows Operating System does not have the appropriate drivers (VirtIO driver) to read the disk that has the operating system installed on it. In a nutshell: 1- Download both VIrtIO and Windows ISO to the image store in the cluster (you can use prism “image configuration” or prism central Explore->images->add image”) 2- Mount both VirtIO drivers and Windows ISO as CDROMs for the guest VM with problem. 3- Power on the guest VM booting from Windows ISO CDROM, you will see an option called “Troubleshoot” 4- Choose the above option and go to command prompt 5- Get the list of mounted disk drives and navigate tot eh drive where VirtIO resides 7- Load the drivers: “drvload vioscsi.inf” 8- see that drivers are mounted now “wmic logicaldisk get caption” 9- exit and reboot guest Vm 10 After you login, go ahead and install the VirtIO MSI package For more details please see: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000kAWeCAM
Protection Domain Local Snapshots and my mistakes
One of the mistakes I made recently was not understanding my daily snapshots, retention and expiration well enough when I created protection domain to keep local snapshots. First, I took a shortcut to creating daily snapshots by selecting Repeat Weekly with every day selected. The docs are a bit light on details so I assumed this would be treated like a daily snapshot. This can casue a problem with many snapshots to keep. I selected 7 so I would have a running weeks worth. Actually, it keeps 7 weeks worth of weekly/daily snapshots. When my free space decrease to a warning state then critical state, I started looking at VM usage but found it increased only a couple TB which meant I was missing about 40TB! While it wasn't clear the snapshots were consuming massive storage, it was clear it was not what I planned. So, I deleted a bunch of snapshots after changing to daily snapshots and keeping the last 14. This helped free a lot of space but there was still some space miss
5.18 2020.9.16 cannot open web console
Hi, I just installed a nested CE 5.18 2020.9.16, and it is OK. single node. vmware esxi 6.7 The host IP is pingable, but the CVM IP is unpingable from outside pc.so cannot open web consoleWhen i login the host, can ping the cvm ip. how to fix the issue? thank you so much.
In the process of installing the nx-8235-g7 equipment, the foundation cannot perform IPMI MAC ADDRESS DISCOVERY.When the installation was powered on, it was booted into Phoenix.iso and the IPMI IP setting was possible, so the installation was possible with the foundation. Is there any change in IPMI MAC DISCOVERY method from G7 equipment? And when the equipment is received and powered on, it boots into Phoenix.iso. Can you know what this is?And starting from g7, is the IPMI DEFAULT PASSWORD indicated by a sticker on the back of the device where the ipmi ID/PASSWORD is not ADMIN/ADMIN?

Need updated version of ISO whitelist
Hi, I am currently trying to expand our existing Nutanix cluster but need to downgrade the version of ESXi as the one installed from factory (Dell) is too new. Unfortunately I'm unable to use the latest Dell customized ISO (5.5 U3) because it's not in the Nutanix iso whitelist. Following documentation I'm supposed to download the latest version of the file from the Nutanix portal but I'm unable to find it. It would be nice if someone of you would be able to assist me with this. Thanks, Dieter
PC Scaleout migration options
I just deployed Prism central scale out on my ESXi cluster and see that the two additional PC appliances have an iso mounted to their CDROM drives. Does this need to stay connected? I’d like to spread these 3 appliances across different datastores. (And ideally, I’d like to move these across sites but I understand that this is a future feature: https://next.nutanix.com/product-ideas-61/multi-cluster-scale-out-prism-central-28305)
Hi, I was hoping if someone can shed a light on some queries I have re snapshots. I am running low on space to the point where I currently have no autobuild resiliency. I do get a FAIL when it comes to snapshot_chain_length when checking with NCC.The value of that is 41 and ideally should be around 10. I have 3 protection domains with a total of 127 VM. I do a daily snapshot but only retain one copy. I have been getting too many snapshot alerts even when I only had snapped 50 VM in one protection domain. -Can someone explain what that snapshot_chain_length actually is and where the 41 comes from? -How much space is actually used by the snapshots? How can I get this info (NOS 220.127.116.11) -Each protection domain has 4 expired snapshots in addition to my one active snapshot. Do these actually take up space? What is their purpose? If I am not mistaken they can not be used for restores.
Apache Cloudstack / Vmware / Nutanix
We are using Apache Cloudstack 4.8.0 with Vmware 5.5 to to provide IAAS services . We want to use Nutanix as underlying infrastructure Is this implementation supported ? Is there any recommendations, best practices for deployment or a reference architecture? We also plan to have HA for a class of our vm whereas others should not be replicated. What kind of mapping between Cloudstack and Vmware organisation units, and Nutnaix Protections domains strategies should we have to achieve this goal. If none of the above is supported is Apache Cloudstack in Nutanix roadmap on Vmware or AHV ? Thank you in advance
Upgrade to AOS 5.15 or 5.16
I have two upgrade options showing in my Nutanix clusters. One is for a 5.15 release and the other is for a 5.16 release. I'm currently on a 18.104.22.168 release and generally keep my clusters updated to the latest release possible. Normally I'd go to the 5.16 release and not ask this question, but I heard from someone that 5.16 might have some problems in it. Would I be safe upgrading to the 5.16 release, or would it introduce instability into my environment?
Storage access for specific VM on a Nutanix VMware edition
We have a shiny new VMware NTNX environment, yeeh! Question: I'd like to be able to measure the virtual disk metrics for a specific workload (backup). Preferably without any layer in between so I can really see what the workload does. Idea is to use a virtual machine on NTNX as a backup server and see what kind of parameters I use for the backup storage. Is it possible to present a container on the CVM as an SMB share and write my backup on it? Or would it be best to use the Windows NFS client to access an export on the CVM? Background: I'd like to purchase a separate storage platform for the backups. But since I'm not really sure what kind of IO patern and throughput I need to sustain, I'd like to test and measure before we buy.
Seeking documentation on new Acropolis installation
I have a cluster running on an NX-3060-G5 with XenServer hypervisor that I want to completely rebuild on Acropolis. I’m looking for documentation on how to do this. Our original cluster was built by a Nutanix engineer onsite and I recall he had to install the foundation software on another machine, but I don’t recall all of the steps he took. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Hi, I am just wondering if you could answer whether Hyper-V clusters should have a quorum disk for the failover-cluster. I cannot find anything with a definitive answer on this - the documentation does not mention it in any way. If it is required or suggested, what is the best way to implement this? Many thanks
Foundation 3.0.1 Imaging A Dell Cluster fails at 2%. No ISO Mounted (Moved to correct forum)
Hi I am using foundation 3.0.1 to image a 3 node cluster of Dell R730's however it fails at 2% progress for StandardError: Mount failed: NFS path not in 'remoteimage -s' The system can access and configure the Dell iDRAC IPMI interface no problem and the virtual cd is enabled on each server. It appears to not be able to mount the required ISO according to the logs. There is no ISO file in the path mentioned. Below is the relevant section of the log. Using nutanix_installer_package-danube-22.214.171.124-0771.tar and ESXi 6.0.0 iso image. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tasks List shows an incomplete task
I recently upgraded my CVMs from 16GB to 32GB. Normally I do this from the CLI but yesterday was curious to see if the command Configure CVM in Prism could handle it. The process ran forever and eventually the progress reached 83%. I came back from lunch (forgetting that I had started that process) and started on resolution of some other NCC check failures. At some point I stopped and started the cluster and it was at that moment that I thought about the CVM memory upgrade task. Prism showed it still at %83 in both Task List and Configure CVM progress bar but the VM view showed all three CVMs at 32GB. So my theory is that I jacked up the running Task List somehow??? Is there a way to "reset" the Task List to get rid of that hung task?
1 gig ports
We are in the process of identifyng datacenter requirements for our Nutanix installation. One statement I recently heard was that the 1 gig ports for the nodes were primarily to address security concerns and that the 10 gig ports would satisfy most customers. Is this true? Are there any other downside issues to not using the 1 gig ports?
Is ESXi 6.7 U3 supported on Nutanix cluster 5.10.X and later?
For a nutanix cluster to be able to install a newly released hypervisor, the information about it must be already in iso_whitelist file. This file can be downloaded from Nutanix portal (search for ESXi 6.7 U3) and is required when installing/upgrading hyperviosr using prism one-click.ESXi 6.7 U3 (built number 14320388), has been out as of Aug, 20, 2019. It is Nutanix policy to support newly release hypervisors within 90 days after they are release by the hyperviosr vendors. As of this writing (Nov 18, 2019), nutanix has released the iso file for this release and is supporting installation of this built on Nutanix clusters 5.10..6 and above.Below is a public KB regarding the support for this release:https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000CsgLCAS
