Nutanix - Server is not reachable
I am new to this companies Nutanix system and we’re getting “Server is not reachable” from the Prisim login screen.I’m getting information overload trying to find where to start diagnosing this issue. Hoping someone can point me in a direction of what to try first. I am remote so I cannot interact with the system directly.

Prism Central License
How can I license our Prism Central? It's running a Pro Trial license now. I've generated a Generate a cluster summary file, but when I try to upload it in the portal I get the following message: Insufficient licenses available to upgrade from your current license type of Starter. Manual registration results in the same error. We have an appliance Ultimate license for 7 nodes.
Prism Central 4.7
Last week I upgraded our Prism Central from 126.96.36.199 to 4.7. I noticed following the upgrade that our Prism Central cluster Capacity information was not being displayed, as if it was a 'fresh installation.' I assumed this was just part of the 4.7 upgrade, and that giving it time to collect data would start the capacity forecasting all over again. However, now 4 days after the upgrade, I'm still not seeing any Prism Central Capacity information. It simply states "We are currently collecting usage data. Cluster usage data will be displayed here in 24 hours." Has anyone else run into this issue?
Analysis tab data export question
Hello everyone, I have a question concerning the analysis tab on the Prism Element UI. To get started i will shortly explain what our current situation is: Last year we sold some Nutanix boxes to a customer. In this contract we also included monitor/management services. As an agreement, every month we schedule a meeting with our customer where we evaluate performance of the nutanix clusters. There are 3 main fields we focus on during the meeting; Cluster host usage, storage performance and storage usage. (See picture below) In this report we include all the data we extracted from the analysis tab on Prism Element. We import this data into excel and pour that data into graphs. (See picture below). This is where our problems arise. As you can see we need both monthly & lifetim

Booting VM to CD, no drives present
Hello, we have only recently implemented Nutanix in our environment so apologies if this is a noob question. My issue is this: I have a 2012 Server VM that I need to repair using the CMD prompt. I am adding a CDROM with the Server 2012 ISO mounted and set to boot. After Windows setup loads I open CMD prompt but the disk where the OS is installed can't be found. Its as if only the ISO is being seen and no other drives. What am I doing wrong?
Best Practice for Template Management
We have several AHV clusters across the WANscape all managed from Prism Central. On one AHV cluster, I created a Windows Server 2016 and a Windows Server 2019 VM from CD ISOs, patched and tweaked and these are our “Golden Images”. I clone those and run sysprep and those are what I make new VMs from. Now I have two problems: 1.) in each cluster we have an RF2 container and an RF3 container so these VMs are bound to one or the other, and 2.) how do I get these to other clusters? To address the differing containers, I end up using the image service (create image of the disks and create new VM from those disks). But now I’m wasting storage because I’m keeping copies of the same VM on two different containers. To address the differing clusters, I was thinking about setting up Protection Domains and letting Nutanix replicate them to each cluster. They would only get updated once or twice per month for Windows patches. Doing it this way would allow me to control replication schedule a
Using Lets Encrypt Certs on Prism Central & Prism Element
I am looking to replace my SSL certificates on my Prism Central and Prism Element deployments with Lets Encrypt wildcard certificates. I can request the wildcard certificates easily enough sudo certbot -d example.com -d *.example.com --manual --preferred-challenges dns-01 --server https://acme-v02.api.letsencrypt.org/directory certonly I get generated three files: privkey = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/privkey.pem chain = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/chain.pem fullchain = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/fullchain.pem Can anyone advise what openssl commands I can use to convert these .pem files to the required format needed for Prism Central/Prism Element? I have attempted multiple commands from https://www.sslsupportdesk.com/openssl-commands/ but I can't seem to find the exact one. I can also grab the intermediate/root certificates from here if I need additional certs. https://letsencrypt.org/certificates/ I'm looking to ultimately find a way to scrip
Windows Server domain join not possible when on different hosts
Hello, I stumbled upon a very weird problem and I am not able to sort it out myself.I have a pretty fresh Cluster running AHV which is for our Lab.I installed a Server 2022 DC - all fine. I installed a second one - all good.I created the Active Directory on the first one, edited IP-Settings on both machines including DNS and everything and tried to join the other Server as a second Domain Controller. That is where I got stuck. It wasn’t able to join the Domain. On the Error Page it said it was able to find the Domain but wether A-Records are not correct or the Server is noch reachable.Ping and nslookup works just fine though. I tried a day testing everything that was coming to my mind and after some while I tried to eliminate as much factors as possible. So I migrated both Servers to the same Node to eliminate networking issues - and this does the trick. When I want to domain join another Server from another Node it does not work anymore, as soon as it is on the same, it does.I then tr
Deploy VMs on AHV using Salt-Cloud (SaltStack)
We have begun leveraging SaltStack for machine states, as well as VM deployment on ESX using SaltStack's Salt-Cloud component. We are however rolling out a pilot deployment of Nutanix gear with AHV, and of course would want to be able to continue leveraging Salt for VM deployment. There are ways of managing KVM via livbert, but this is probably not the right thing to try and do with AHV. Is there anyone out there who may be writing/written/using something that ties SaltStack into the Prism API instead? If not, Nutanix, interested in writing a SaltStack module? :D
Unable to Add Users to A Custom Role
Hello, I created a custom role in PC to allow users to manage and create VMs. However, I am unable to add users into the custom role and it seems that it cannot even find the user that I created when I’m at the new user section. I’ve seen in some video tutorials that it will suggest a user once you start typing in the name but in my case it kept saying No results.Just for added info, I am able to login to the new user that I created.
AD User Permission Denied To Clone VM Via REST API
I tried to log in with AD user in REST API Explorer.I am getting error asmessage": "No permission to access the resource. <Request 'http://nmegh02.prd.dcservices.in:9440/v3/vms/c2784552-c129-4f49-9d0e-b20b32c2a5e4/clone' [post]>", "reason": "ACCESS_DENIED"I have given FULL ACCESS to roles of current AD user .i.e VM and APP → FULL ACCESS in Roles Section. What other permission i need to give so that AD user can execute REST API?
Register Cluster to Prism Central
I have installed Prism Cental 188.8.131.52 and Acropolis 184.108.40.206. Now I tried to register my Nutanix Cluster to Prism Central. I entered the admin credentials in the registration form. But I got an error "Failed to register to Prism Central: HTTP 403 forbidden". Any hints? best regards, arno
Operation kImageDelete not allowed, catalog item is owned by cluster
So I had to replace my prism central with a new one, unfortunately it had already taken ownership of the images. With my new prism central at I can not delete any of the old images and I get this error. Operation kImageDelete not allowed, catalog item is owned by cluster 4452164c-24b6-479d-b16b-a8635fbe2741, which I believe is my old prism central UUID. I can't delete them from from the clusters locally because they are hooked to prims central. This is pretty frustrating as I am trying to use PC as my main entry point for managing and deploying vm.
Prism Central (PC) VM is running out of space
Similarly to a CVM, Prism Central VM can run out of space. There are three main contributors:localhost_access_log.txt not being rotated properly Nutanix Insights collector log file have consumed more disk space than expected on Prism Central and Controller VMs multiple Nutanix Guest Tool installers are stored in the home directory of Prism CentralWhile the engineering team is working on improving the product behaviour, there are some things you can do about preventing a PC failure:Log in to the PC VM. Navigate to the /home partition List the contents of the directory by size and look for any large unused files that can be deleted. Some common sub-directories under /home where large files are likely to be found. Files in these locations can be deleted to free up space. Delete the files in the folder but NOT the folder itself./home/nutanix/software_downloads/ - Delete any old versions other than the versions you are currently upgrading /home/nutanix/software_uncompressed/ - Delete any ol
What's the difference between Snapshot & Recovery Points?
Whenever I take snapshots from Prism Central it shows under Recovery point but not under Snapshot. Not sure, if both are same Thing. Also, recovery point give an option to “Replicate” , whereas Snapshot give an option to “Restore”….are both same?
Alert on VM Performance
I recently had an individual VM whose CPU spiked to between 94-98% for roughly 6 hours. I'd only caught it because the user finally called in and said their VM was slow. In Prism it wasn't showing a warning at all, but I could very clearly see that the CPU was pegged. I wondered if there was any way to set up an email alert for if CPU/RAM at the VM-level has sustained utilization above a certain threshold?
SSP when using a a trusted certificate
has anyone been able ot use the SSP feautre while usinga trusted 3rd party wildcard certificate? At least for us, the feature only works if we use the self-signed certificate. Any attempt to get to the SSP using a 3rd party cert results in "Oops - Server error" and little else. Considering this is an end-user facing site, that presents obvious problems. So just doing a reality check: anyone out there using a 3rd party wildcard cert and getting a working SSP?
