5 Essential Tips for Maximizing Your Experience at Nutanix .NEXT for Bloggers
Thank you, very appreciated! We’re configuring HPE DL325 servers unfortunately the latest Proliant HCL (8th of July update) does not even mention the AMD platform. I tried the validator tool but storage size is not checked and I guess that the Nutanix storage calculator tool is a bit too generic (960x2 + 2TBx2 is documented so, at least from a theoretical point of view, possible with every hardware platform).
Not sure if you're referring to a local unit in my country, but we already discussed the setup, and they told me that if sizer does not allow that manual change in disks number than is not a supported configuration.
Hello Alona, so there is not a golden rule for SSD/HDD ratio but the general rule is 1:2. I asked because some platforms are certified starting from 1:1, not just in the Robo's scenarios, for example the DX360 LFF. The same platform in the SFF form requires 4 HDD, with any CPU or memory size. I think you're 100% correct when you point out to I/O because restaging from hot to cold requires fast mechanical disk, usually the certified ones are 10.000 rpm SAS, and 4 disks perform better togheter than 2 because the load can be distributed to every single disk. I'd be interesting to discuss the matter, how can I reach out a software engineer?
Hello Sergei, So if there is not enough free space data loss is possible and HA with only two healthy nodes does not work as well (while in RoBo setup it seems that cluster can stay up with one node). Well, I can’t remember if the “not enough space available” came from Cassandra but it was quite weird because 90% of the space is free (in AOS 5.18.1 the limit you should not pass is very clearly shown)
Hi Sergei,I asked because the topic was never fully covered, I found only a topic that explained how to replace HDDs with bigger ones, if I recall well. I don’t want to try in a production environment, it’s more like a lab experiment. I’m not planning to replace the SSDs, just add new HDDs disks in the emply slots, moving from from full flash to hybrid. Do you think that I should remove a node to add disks or should be possible to hot plug and then add them in Prism?Ratio in my hardware setup would be 2 SSD for 4 HDDs for every node
Hello, thank you both for the answers, this is the Kb I was looking for. It’d make sense to create different shares with different optimization ? For example if a share is dedicated to store big compressed archive files or ISOs, sequential would definitely perform better.
