5 Essential Tips for Maximizing Your Experience at Nutanix .NEXT for Bloggers
I try to migrate as many as possible OSes to Nutanix... Unfortunately, not all are supported with Xtract / Move. I migrated several XP / 2003 systems manually. Are you planning to MOVE bare metal servers to AHV with the product as well? Regards, Bart
Hi, Should be done manually... You have to copy the vhd files to Nutanix storages... You can use this files as source for a disk image. When the images are created, the virtual machine can be created in Prism... I think, there is some guidance on the web. I will have a look for you... Regards, Bart
On the Nutanix portal, you can find some information... https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Migration-Guide-AOS-v51:vmm-vms-migrating-non-ntnx-ahv-t.html Regards, Bart
Great! Good luck migrating ;-) Regards, Bart
Mapping of external iSCSI storage to a virtual machine will work without any doubt. I think it is also supported... Mapping external storage to an ESXi host will work, but I think it is not supported. This is also not the question, although the picture is a little confusing about this... Regards, Bart
hopefully, you have the time to install the virtio drivers (before getting the BSOD). Another option is to install the virtio drivers on the source server, so Windows Plug&Play will install the SCSI controller driver and the server will boot automatically after migration with the correct drivers. regards, Bart
Hi @Jose_orozco, Option is to clone disk(s) to ide bus. Server will start (very slowly). Then you can check the drivers of the SCSI controller, and eventually reinstall this driver. When driver installation is successful, you can clone the disks again, but now to a SCSI controller. Server should be running without any problem after that (at least, if the SCSI Controller is the problem.) Did you call Nutanix Support? After all, Windows 2008R2 is supported with the latest VirtIO drivers. They would be happy to support you. Regards, Bart
Is the Move appliance whitelisted for this container?
Is thread helpful? Nutanix Move Migration ESXi to AHV
Congrats to all NTC’s. Thanks @aluciani to make this all happen.Very happy (and proud) to stay a member of this family.
I don’t think you can manage that. Can you apply for a new license with a new Machine ID or a different CPU ID?
Not anything is possible. As far as I know, you can preserve the MAC address for licensing purposes. Everything else is newly created. That is a disadvantage when changing hypervisors.
VMware tools is one of the prerequisites for using Move. So, you have to install (the latest) VMware tools to migrate the VM automatically. Otherwise, you have to perform a manual migration.
