5 Essential Tips for Maximizing Your Experience at Nutanix .NEXT for Bloggers
Agreed, please open a ticket at portal.nutanix.com and have the support team take a look. Jon
Hi For some reason, our KB on this is marked as Internal only, KB 1753. I'm going to submit a request to figure out why that is. In the mean time, Pile this on to the Dell ticket you're going to open for those other issues, and we'll address it all in one fell swoop!
Ahmed, Is this for a production Nutanix install? If so, I'd recommend that you open a ticket on portal.nutanix.com, so we can help you power through your issues and get you stable again.
Hey , this is another issue that we'd invite you to bring up with Dell support, who can get Nutanix support engaged as need be. We'd be happy to help walk you through power through the issues you're having with setting up data protection to cloud.
It's important to note that the "Cluster VIP", which I think you are referring "IP of Prism" is not the only way to access prism. In fact, prism actually runs on all nodes simultaneously, so if you hit the IP of any controller VM, you should get prism coming up. That said, you've posted a few times on here, sounds like you're doing a new set up on Dell. Did Dell come and set it up for you? Or are you trying to set it all up youself? Either way, it sounds like there's something not going right. Definitely open a case with Dell and make sure everything's configured right and healthy, they can walk through that with you, and escalate to Nutanix support if need be. We'll want to make sure you're all stable so you dont have any problems virtualizing your apps.
: Also, note, a near term future release of NOS will put that "vanilla zip" functionality in the GUI.
Hi What NOS version are you on? If you are on 4.5.0.2, you can use the "cluster" command, at the cli, to do the incremental upgrade and have prism manage the ESX update, no JSON required. If this is the first time you've done this, feel free to open a Dell support ticket, and escalate to Nutanix, and we can help you step through that upgrade process so it's all nice and smooth. Cheers mate, Jon
Hi Since this is "paid nutanix", Please open a ticket with Dell support, and have them escalate to Nutanix, we can help you power through the foundation issues you're experiencing and give you a more rapid response. That said, technically, Foundation isn't supported for Dell clusters, as they have their own imaging process. I know for a fact it does work, as my team as done it plenty of times, just know it's not the norm, since Dell can ship ESX, HV, and AHV from the factory all native. I'm curious, Why are you trying to foundation this cluster?
Who did you work with in PS? I'd be happy to get you guys re-connected (That's my team), and they can help out, as they'll know more about your environment than anyone on the open forums here. That said, honestly, you dont have to configure much past the default, keep it simple principle for sure. The only non-default things that MIGHT be in-scope would be these:1 - esxi syslog2 - network (distributing switching, etc)RE Power Policy - leave it to balanced. ESXi does a really good job at handling C and P states, and honestly, it won't make much of a difference unless you have VERY cpu scheduling sensitive applications like HPC or vBCA.Otherwise, defaults are pretty strong, and our foundation tool does a lot of the normal heavy lifting right out of the box, so it's definitely a lot less host config than a vanilla esx install by hand.
I haven't run into that exact configuration, but we can certainly dig deeper. I'd hate to guess and have you run in circles, I'd recommend opening a ticket with Nutanix support. They can help review your configuration end to end and, if needed, do a real time trace during your backup window (called perf collect), to see if there is anything redlining within the Nutanix storage stack.
Kelvin, We support 5.5 U2 now officially. If you have 64GB DOM's, you are correct, those issues are gone. RE 10Gb driver: I am not sure what you mean specifically, but if you upgrade to 5.5 U2, make sure you upgrade to NCC 1.3 ( or current GA version), and run "ncc health_checks run_all", that will validate your installed drivers and make sure you are at the right level.
Chaiyarit, Are you saying that syslog isn't exporting any data? or just not the type of data you are looking for? Thanks, Jon
Alan, Can you eleborate? Are you talking about the baseline information from diagnostics.py?
