Separate datastore for SSD and SATA disks under VMWare ESXi

In Nutanix nodes, there are SSD disks and SATA disks. Can we create two separate  datastores.  One datastore only contains SSD disks and one datastore only contains SATA disks

Hey @KCLO , so give me some time I will research on this configuration and get back to you soon.

In the meantime, you can create a new NFS datastore on physical hosts as mentioned in this article: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Command-Ref-AOS-v5_17%3Aacl-ncli-datastore-auto-r.html

Cheers!

Hey @KCLO , so I researched a bit and what I found was that on SAN LUNs you can do the above, but you cannot control this in Nutanix as we don't have external tiers for consumer use. All SSDs & HDDs creates one storage pool, that's out DFS(distributed Storage fabric-https://nutanixbible.com/). You can read more about it in the Nutanix Bible.

So for ESXi its one storage, we cannot separate at that layer.

But say I have EMC storage which has SSD & HDD, I can create a LUN from HDD and one LUN from SSD and present to ESXi, this way we have a SSD datastore and a HDD datastore.

I hope I was able to clear your doubt, let me know if you need help with anything else.
