UPGRADING SERVER FIRMWARE

Nutanix recommends that you use the Service Pack for ProLiant® (SPP) ISO file for applying firmware updates. Perform this procedure on every host in the cluster, one host at a time.

About this task

To upgrade the firmware on a server, do the following:

Procedure

  1. If the server is part of a Nutanix cluster, place the server in maintenance mode.
Information about placing a server in maintenance mode is available in the host management section of the Acropolis Command-Line Interface (aCLI) documentation. See the Command Reference for the supported AOS version.

  2. Turn on the server to the SPP ISO.

    • Connect to the iLO by using the iLO IP address.

    • Log on to the iLO user interface by using the administrator credentials.
The default administrator user name is Administrator on all HPE® ProLiant® servers. Passwords for the iLO administrator differ from one server to another, and are available on the service tag on the server.

    • Attach the SPP ISO to the server by using the iLO remote console and restart the server .
You can use the iLO remote console to attach the ISO file as a virtual medium. For more information, see the HPE iLO User Guide.

  3. Choose the Interactive mode and click Firmware Update.

    • In the Actions drop-down menu, click Advanced Options. The Advanced Options wizard displays.

    • In Installation Options drop-down menu, click Downgrade Firmware.
Note: The Downgrade Firmware option allows updating to a higher or lower version. You can update to a qualified higher or lower firmware version in the SPP ISO, as required.

    • Click Ok.

  4. Note: Repeat this update process to ensure that the firmware for component with redundant ROMs get updated. For details, see the section Notes and Cautions.
For detailed deployment instructions, see the release notes for Service Pack for ProLiant.

  5. If the server is part of a Nutanix cluster, after the upgrade is complete, take the server out of maintenance mode.
Information about taking a server out of maintenance mode is available in the host management section of the Acropolis Command-Line Interface (aCLI) documentation. See the Command Reference for the supported AOS version.

Download the ISO file of the supported version of SPP. For supported version and download location information, see the Hardware Compatibility List for your platform.
