Dark site upgrade

Hello all,

I am trying to do some updates in a dark site. I have configured the webserver and downloaded all the updates on the local server(like in the documentation). But from my understanding of the documentation, you need to do the following steps:

  1. Put the necessary files in the web server
  2. Replace the compatibility checks for the specific upgrade module
  3. Run inventory checks.
  4. Upgrade module

I find it quite hard and time-consuming to do this for each component. Are there any better/faster ways to upgrade a dark site?

For example, download all the upgrades and perform only one inventory check?

Hi Costel-Valentin,

The LCM for dark site is not smart enough yet to do that. Since you’d have to replace Nutanix signature file for each component in the release folder, there can be only one component there at any given time.

If it’s any consolation, you can run firmware upgrades using LCM Bundles (read release notes as not absolutely everything is included in the bundle).

The software would have to be upgraded piece by piece.

I would

  1. Set up a Web Server
  2. Point LCM to that Web Server (instead of Nutanix)
  3. Download and extract the dark site bundle (LCM framework and Foundation should be amongst the first ones).
  4. Upgrade LCM itself
  5. Repeat for Foundation
  6. Repeat for the firmware.
  7. Repeat for software.
