Nutanix Deployment for On-Premise ERP Integration | Nutanix Community
Skip to main content

I work as cyber security engineer.

My client wants to deploy Nutanix on-premise and want to integrate existing ERP (Epicore) to Nutanix.

Client has total 7 plants, including 1 Head Office and 6 Other plants at different location.

Below is the network diagram that i have created:

.

  1. I just want to know where and how should i integrate Nutanix, for better performance??
  1. What will be the Node details ,i.e, how many nodes are required?
  1. What will be the Node configuration?

Requirement is Nodes with Gold Processor.!!!

Server: Dell R640 Power Edge, RAM: 512, HDD=960GBx6

Hello,

The network diagram is fine.

1) Better performance measured how? Placement at the core is normal, but it depends how the ERP works whether you need edge clusters too?

2) What is the workload? Impossible to say how many nodes without knowing what it is to run.

3) as above.

You can run nutanix production only on certified hardware. Please involve a nutanix partner or nutanix se in your region to support/help you with correct sizing and designs.

@Kcmount

  1. By better performance i mean to say…, prefered location to place Nutanix, Integration with other applications should not result in downtime.
  2. You could take standard workload, total users in HO are 350 and for plants consider 100 users,…, total 10,000(approx.)
  3. Now what will be the node configuration and PS: server required is gold processor

We cant see. You need to involve a nutanix partner or nutanix sales engineer.

Hi Munish, there's still no useful information in your post I'm afraid on the needs of the application workload etc.

@JeroenTielen

You are also a Nutanix Certified Instructor, if i am not wrong. Could you help me in this? I just want a small idea how should I integrate/implement it at safest and best place

Run rvtools to get an export of current situation. Import it in nutanix sizer and tweak a bit to your needs. But your questions cant be answered without knowin all the ins and outs. Again, please contact you local nutanix team. They are to help you with all these.

@Kcmount

Basically while auditing the client site, there was no Disaster Recovery plan and Backup plan.

Please take standard workload (approx. 1000 users).

And for applications, just integrate ERP Epicore to Nutanix.

Or just give some idea what should be required like how many nodes, What will be node configuration please take example of diagram.

Just want get some idea.

Sorry Munish there's no way to easily guess this without information.

@JeroenTielen

How to contact local Nutanix team? Where should i mail or call?

@Kcmount

From diagram could you just give me idea where to place Nutanix?

@Kcmount

@JeroenTielen

I was going through Nutanix Hardware Spec sheet because client want gold processor.

Does Nutanix also provides all software application (required for Nutanix) with hardware or just empty hardware server???

Hi Munish,

Both options are available, you can buy appliances with licenses, and you can buy hardware from OEMs with/without licenses.

@Kcmount

Where can I get the cost of hardware and license?? No costing is available on web-site. And also i am not getting any response from support and vendor i have tried contacting them several times

Hi there,

It very much depends what hardware you are looking at.

Simply an Intel Xeon Gold doesn’t help with sizing, the licensing is calculated per core so a system with 10cores will be less expensive than one with 20cores etc. Without knowing even at a basic level the specs required it is impossible to say.

You can see the license comparisons at https://www.nutanix.com/uk/products/cloud-platform/software-options - in the simplest view:

NCI - Needed for each server (licensed per core) can be Starter, Pro or Ultimate depending upon features (see link above)

NCM - Multicluster management - you may not need this if the requirement is very simple but worth reviewing.

NCP (combines NCI + NCM)

@Kcmount @JeroenTielen

Hope you are well.

So i got the workload (approx.)

CPU -
Peak CPU - 15GHz,
Net CPU - 50.40GHz,
Cores - 24,
CPU Sockets - 4

Peak Aggregate Network Throughput - 661.59 megabits/s

Capacity -
Total - 1.27TiB,
Used - 589.00Gib,
Free - 712.00Gib

Memory -
Peak Memory Usage - 157.35GiB,
Total Memory - 378.00Gib

IOPS at 95% - 806

Average Daily Write - 319.46GiB

Two virtual machines - Database, Application
1) Database -
95% IOPS - 790,
Local Capacity - 801.00GiB,
Free Capacity - 431.00 GiB,
Used Capacity 370.00GiB,
Read Latency - 1,
Write Latency - 1,
Queue Depth - 0.51,
MB/s - 972.6,
Read/Write ratio - 62%/38%,
OS- Microsoft Windows

2) Application -
95% IOPS - 98,
Local Capacity - 500.00GiB,
Free Capacity - 281.00 GiB,
Used Capacity 219.00GiB,
Read Latency - 0,
Write Latency - 0,
Queue Depth - 0.02,
MB/s - 27.7,
Read/Write ratio - 72%/28%,
OS- Microsoft Windows

Now could you suggest me best implementation, hardware requirement and anything that you consider i should focus on.!?

Hi Munish,

This suggests there is a need for only 2 virtual machines (database, and application) with a total overall overall requirement of only 378GB of RAM (plus overheads).

Its unclear how the figures for CPU were calculated whether its 4 CPUs each with 24 Cores, or 4 CPUs providing a total of 24 cores. A very small storage requirement of ~2.5TiB.

Either way, this is a very very small workload in reality, Nutanix is certainly a potential fit but for two VMs you’d be looking at 3 physical hosts which sounds overkill for 2 VMs in my head.

Has the customer specifically told you want they want Nutanix, or do they have some future workload they wish to add alongside these 2 VMs?

A very basic 3-node cluster would satisfy this requirement if it is accurate, do you have a reseller or Nutanix contact in territory to help you quote it?

@Kcmount

Yes, customers current infrastructure is not able to handle the workload and also customer’s digital infrastructure was audited by it’s own partner and it was concluded that there is need of HCI solution, because once there was a downtime from my customer’s end and whole site(OT) went down.
And yes, they also want backup and recovery which they doesnot have and i think nutanix will definitely solve their problems and ofcourse their partner themselves recommended nutanix solution to them.

@Kcmount
and also about reseller, some resellers are not picking up the call and some haven’t responded yet

Hi there,

Thanks for that, sounds like I need to set up a business in your country ;)

Bringing backup and DR into the mix makes things more interesting too, certainly makes it easier to manage and enjoy the benefits.

Send me a PM with your email / company you work for and which country you’re in and I’ll see if I can find a friendly Nutanix sales friend for you.

@Kcmount

hahaha…

Sure. i have sent, please check!

@Kcmount

Just want to ask about hardware specification that Nutanix has provided on the website.

Let’s consider NX-1065N-G8, it has form factor of 2U4N. Now it already has 4 nodes, means one NX-1065N-G8 has 4 nodes, now if i want to select the memory for NX-1065N-G8 it will be of one node or whole NX-1065N-G8????

MEMORY available for NX-1065N-G8: 128 GB, 256 GB, 384 GB, 512 GB, 768 GB, 1024 GB

If i select 128GB then total memory will be 4x128GB or only 128GB????
