Nutanix cluster upgrade

In the Nutanix Cluster upgrade there are five options

Upgrade Software

  • AOS
  • File Server
  • Hypervisor
  • NCC
  • Foundation

so what is the correct sequence to upgrade whole stack of nutanix software?

You wanna add LCM and there is a specific order that Nutanix recommends - below is the link as well. Hope this helps!

1. Upgrade NCC on Prism Central (PC)
2. Upgrade Prism Central
3. Upgrade NCC on Prism Element (PE)
4. Upgrade Foundation on PE
5. Upgrade AOS on PE
6. Upgrade LCM on PE. Perform inventory and apply any software & firmware upgrade.
7. Upgrade cluster Hypervisor hosts (ESXi, AHV, etc)
8. Upgrade File Server

I have been upgrading in the below order

  • Foundation
  • NCC
  • AOS
  • Hypervisor
  • File Server

if you have prism central(PC)  then PC is the first component you will need to upgrade.
